Leidos is an American technology and engineering services company created in 2013 when Science Applications International Corporation split in two, with Leidos taking the technical services and solutions business. It is one of the largest suppliers to the United States government, working across defence programmes, intelligence systems, civil agencies including the Federal Aviation Administration, and healthcare services for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, the company also builds security detection products for airports and borders, and has concentrated recent investment on trusted artificial intelligence and autonomy for mission environments.

About Leidos Australia

At Leidos Australia, our work goes beyond a job title. We design, build, operate and support the systems, services and capabilities that help protect and advance the Australian way of life.

Backed by a global organisation of more than 40,000 people, our Australian team of around 2,000 has partnered with government, defence and national security customers for more than 30 years. We deliver mission-critical solutions where reliability, trust and purpose matter.

Leidos is a destination for people who want their work to have purpose, their contribution to be recognised, and their career to grow without needing to fit a single mould. Meaningful work is supported by benefits, flexibility and career pathways that help you grow while balancing life outside work. This includes:

  • Wellbeing That Matters - Free access to Headspace and MeQuilibrium, plus dedicated wellness spaces to support your mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing.

  • Learn Without Limits - Access over 120,000 on-demand courses, alongside technical, project management, leadership, and professional development opportunities.

  • Work That Makes an Impact - Contribute to nationally significant projects that matter, solve complex challenges, and accelerate your career through unique growth opportunities.

  • Build Your Future - Whether you're deepening technical expertise or preparing for leadership, we'll invest in your development every step of the way.

  • And Much More - These are just a few of the ways we invest in our people and help them thrive.

About the Team

You’ll join a team where people work with integrity, inclusion, innovation, agility, collaboration and commitment. In practice, that means sharing ownership, solving complex problems together and staying connected to the customer context, the purpose behind the work and how each role contributes to meaningful outcomes.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to contribute to the delivery of critical infrastructure projects that support the security, reliability and modernisation of enterprise technology environments. As a Systems Administrator, you will play a key role in implementing and supporting infrastructure solutions across on-premises, cloud and hybrid environments.

  • Build, configure, test and deploy infrastructure solutions across Windows, Unix, Linux, virtualised and cloud platforms, ensuring alignment with project requirements and operational standards.

  • Support major technology initiatives including infrastructure migrations, upgrades, cloud adoption, technology refresh programs and platform modernisation projects.

  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, cybersecurity specialists, vendors and operational teams to deliver secure, resilient and supportable solutions from implementation through to production handover.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement through automation, infrastructure standardisation and operational best practices that enhance efficiency, reduce risk and improve service reliability.

About You

We're looking for an infrastructure professional who enjoys solving technical challenges, delivering quality outcomes and working collaboratively across project and operational teams. You bring a practical approach to systems administration, a focus on security and reliability, and the ability to support infrastructure change in complex enterprise environments.

Essential:

  • Experience in systems administration, infrastructure engineering or a similar technical role supporting enterprise environments.

  • Knowledge of Windows, Unix and Linux operating systems, including server provisioning, configuration, patching, upgrades and lifecycle management.

  • Understanding of core infrastructure services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, networking, storage, authentication, monitoring, backup and performance management.

  • Experience with virtualisation technologies such as VMware and/or Microsoft Hyper-V, along with infrastructure troubleshooting and performance optimisation.

  • Knowledge of infrastructure security, system hardening, vulnerability remediation, patch management and compliance requirements.

  • Ability to develop technical documentation, support project delivery activities and work effectively with a range of technical and business stakeholders.

Advantageous:

  • Experience supporting infrastructure across cloud and hybrid environments.

  • Knowledge of AWS, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure or other enterprise cloud platforms.

  • Experience with automation and scripting technologies such as PowerShell, Shell scripting, Python, Ansible or equivalent tools.

  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code, configuration management and cloud modernisation practices.

  • Relevant Microsoft, Linux, VMware, cloud or infrastructure certifications.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

This role requires the successful applicant to be an Australian citizen and hold an NV-1 security clearance.

If this role interests you, we encourage you to apply. We value different experiences and are interested in the capability and potential you could bring.

What to Expect When You Apply

Our hiring process is designed to be straightforward, respectful and easy to navigate. If your skills, experience and qualifications look aligned with the role, our Talent Acquisition team will contact you to discuss the next stage. You can expect:

  • An initial conversation with our Talent Acquisition team

  • An interview with the hiring manager or interview panel

  • Any role-specific assessment, technical discussion or customer step required for the position

We’ll let you know what to expect before each stage, including who you’ll meet and how to prepare. If you need any adjustments or support during the process, please let us know.
