External Description

Role Purpose and Context

The Senior Cybersecurity Architect - Agentic Engineering defines and advances cybersecurity approaches and architectures for Agentic Engineering. The role establishes practical security architectures, controls and guardrails for AI agents and agent-enabled software development, applying them across the software development lifecycle and runtime.

The role works across Cybersecurity, Architecture and Engineering to translate security principles into usable engineering patterns, influence adoption and demonstrate progress through implementation and adoption outcomes. It combines strategic security architecture with practical engagement in the design and delivery of secure agentic capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Define and apply cybersecurity architectures, controls and guardrails for AI agents and agent-enabled software development.
  • Assess and address security risks associated with agentic systems across design, development, deployment and runtime.
  • Apply security approaches across the software development lifecycle, including development tools, agent integrations, identities and permissions, data access, software supply chain, testing, deployment, monitoring and incident response.
  • Translate security principles and requirements into practical, reusable engineering patterns, reference architectures, standards and guidance.
  • Influence Cybersecurity, Architecture and Engineering stakeholders to align on and adopt secure approaches for Agentic Engineering.
  • Partner with engineering teams to integrate security controls into agentic workflows and development platforms in ways that are effective and usable.
  • Identify adoption barriers and work with stakeholders to address them.
  • Establish or contribute to implementation plans and adoption milestones; monitor progress and communicate outcomes, risks and lessons learned.
  • Evaluate emerging threats, technologies and practices relevant to AI agents and agent-enabled software development, and recommend appropriate architectural responses.
  • Advise stakeholders on security risks, trade-offs and control options, supporting informed decisions that balance risk, business needs and engineering usability.
  • Collaborate with relevant teams to ensure that security approaches are consistent with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity policies and applicable standards.
  • Coach and advise cybersecurity and engineering practitioners, and share knowledge to build secure Agentic Engineering capability.

Essential Criteria

  • Cybersecurity architecture for Agentic Engineering: Proven experience assessing risks, defining and applying security architectures, controls and guardrails for AI agents and agent-enabled software development across the software development lifecycle and runtime.
  • Influence and secure adoption: Proven experience influencing cybersecurity, architecture and engineering stakeholders to adopt secure approaches, translating security principles into practical engineering patterns and demonstrating progress through implementation or adoption.
  • Software engineering and cloud-native architecture: In-depth knowledge and experience across multiple aspects of Software Engineering, particularly enterprise-scale, cloud-native solutions; knowledge of modern software, devops and cloud architectures; and experience designing and leading the build of enterprise architectures and solutions.
  • Senior technical leadership: Extensive, proven experience in a multi-team or program level technical leadership role, working at a senior level in a complex, multi-platform distributed environment.
  • Complex solution architecture and business partnership: Experience architecting complex, scalable solutions using multiple technologies and processing environments, and partnering with business stakeholders to define technology strategies and build solutions that meet business needs using a product mindset.
  • Leadership, coaching and engineering excellence: Extensive leadership, coaching and mentoring experience, including implementing engineering excellence best practices across multiple teams.
  • Desired Skills and Experience

    • Knowledge of identity and access management, least privilege, secrets management, data protection, software supply-chain security, threat modelling, secure-by-design practices, monitoring and incident response.
    • Experience developing reference architectures, security standards, reusable patterns or engineering guardrails.
    • Experience working across organisational boundaries and communicating security concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Relevant degree or professional qualifications in cybersecurity, computer science, software engineering or a related discipline.

    Role Scope

This is a cross-disciplinary architecture role. Candidates may come from a cybersecurity/DevSecOps or software engineering background, but must demonstrate the essential capabilities across secure architecture, enterprise software and cloud architecture, and practical engineering adoption for Agentic Engineering.
