LIC

LIC (Livestock Improvement Corporation) is a farmer-owned herd improvement and agri-technology co-operative headquartered in Hamilton, New Zealand, supplying dairy cattle genetics, artificial breeding, herd testing, animal health and DNA diagnostics and herd management software. With more than 115 years in the New Zealand dairy sector, it runs the MINDA herd recording platform, markets Premier Sires bull teams and operates laboratories including Awahuri, serving shareholder farmers across both islands. It hires AB technicians, herd test technicians, laboratory technicians and team leaders, seasonal drivers and sample processors, dairy scientists, accountants and business analysts.

LIC is a farmer-owned co-operative that’s been supporting herd improvement in New Zealand’s dairy sector for more than 115 years. We’re focused on providing superior genetics, reliable testing and diagnostics, integrated on-farm software, and great customer service, all designed to help farmers make smarter decisions every day.

As a proud generational co-operative, we’re here for farmers, their families, and rural communities, not just for today, but for the future. And none of it happens without our people. Whether on farm, in the lab, or behind the scenes, every one of us plays a part in helping New Zealand farmers succeed.

About the Role:

Join LIC’s Operations & Service Group and play a vital role in delivering on the promises we make to our customers every day. Reporting to the EU SCC Manager at our Awahuri site, you'll be part of the Semen Processing Lab team, supporting the production and export of world-class genetics that help drive the success of New Zealand dairy farmers.

This hands-on laboratory role is responsible for processing bull semen to meet production targets while helping maintain the high standards of quality, compliance and export requirements expected of LIC's international markets. You'll work closely with a supportive team in an environment where accuracy, collaboration and continuous improvement are highly valued.

Your Key Focus:

  • Perform quality control activities to ensure products meet required standards and compliance requirements.

  • Operate laboratory and analytical equipment in line with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safe operating practices.

  • Carry out routine maintenance, calibration and servicing of laboratory equipment.

  • Contribute to the review, development and implementation of new and existing SOPs.

  • Support compliance with OAP Operational Codes, EU and GBR OMAR requirements, and WOAH regulations.

  • Coordinate the dispatch of semen to EU markets and LIC's Newstead facility.

  • Support procurement activities and help maintain adequate laboratory stock levels.

What you will bring....

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A collaborative team player who enjoys working with others to achieve shared goals.

  • Ability to build positive working relationships with internal teams, contractors and key stakeholders.

  • An understanding of laboratory operations and quality standards.

  • Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with SAP would be an advantage.

  • A tertiary qualification in science and/or laboratory experience is preferred, but not essential.

In Return:

In addition to a competitive salary, you'll receive some great benefits including:

  • Extra leave days

  • Flexible working options

  • Discounted health, life, income and disability insurances

  • Access to our employee shares scheme

  • Wellbeing discounts

  • Free onsite parking

This is a great opportunity to be part of an organisation at the forefront of animal genetics and dairy innovation. You'll join a close-knit team where your contribution directly supports both New Zealand farmers and international customers, while gaining valuable experience in a specialist laboratory environment focused on quality, compliance and continuous improvement.

If you're detail-oriented, enjoy working in a laboratory setting, and take pride in producing high-quality outcomes, we'd love to hear from you.
