Lockheed Martin is the largest defence contractor in the world, formed in 1995 by merging Lockheed Corporation with Martin Marietta and headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. Its single most important programme is the F-35 Lightning II, the most expensive weapons system ever built, alongside the F-16, the C-130 transport and classified work at the Skunk Works advanced development unit. The company also dominates missile defence with THAAD and PAC-3 interceptors, supplies HIMARS and Javelin systems, owns the helicopter maker Sikorsky, and builds the Orion crew capsule and military satellites through its space division.

Standard Job Description

Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs approximately 114,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration, and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products, and services. Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control (MFC) is one of four Lockheed Martin business areas.

Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control (MFC) is seeking a Staff E3/EMC (Electromagnetic Environmental Effects) Engineer to serve as a technical authority and thought leader within our E3 Engineering organization. MFC is a recognized designer, developer, and manufacturer of precision engagement aerospace and defense systems for the U.S. and allied militaries. This role is suited for an experienced E3/EMC professional who can drive technical strategy, mentor junior engineers, and shape the direction of E3 capabilities across multiple programs.

What You Will Be Doing

The Staff E3/EMC Engineer will serve as a recognized subject matter expert and technical leader, providing architectural guidance and strategic direction for E3/EMC controls across the MFC portfolio. Responsibilities may include:

  • Defining and driving E3 requirements allocation and control-plan strategy, establishing technical roadmaps, and ensuring alignment with program and enterprise-level objectives
  • Serving as the technical authority for EMI/EMC design, analysis, and test across multiple programs, providing independent review and approval of critical technical artifacts
  • Leading complex root-cause investigations and corrective action development for EMI issues spanning circuit card, box, and system-level integration
  • Directing MIL-STD-461/464 qualification test programs, including test plan approval, chamber test witnessing, and data package sign-off
  • Leading HERO/HERP/HERF, self-compatibility, co-site interference, and lightning/HIRF protection analysis across host platforms
  • Mentoring and developing junior and mid-level E3/EMC engineers, conducting technical training, and fostering a culture of engineering excellence
  • Leading or contributing to proposal efforts, including technical volume writing, basis of estimate development, and competitive strategy for E3-related scope
  • Representing E3 Engineering in customer-facing engagements, design reviews, technical interchange meetings (TIMs), and program milestone reviews
  • Establishing and enforcing E3 design standards, best practices, and lessons learned across the organization
  • Collaborating with program management, systems engineering, and cross-functional leadership to align E3 technical execution with cost, schedule, and performance commitments

This position offers the opportunity to shape the future of E3 engineering capabilities at Lockheed Martin and to have a significant impact across the MFC enterprise.

Candidates may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related STEM field from an accredited university; Master’s degree or PhD preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in E3/EMC engineering or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience leading MIL-STD-461/464 qualification programs, including test plan development, chamber test execution, and compliance data package generation
  • Strong expertise in grounding, bonding, shielding, and filtering design for circuit cards, enclosures, and cable/harness assemblies
  • Experience developing and allocating E3 requirements and control plans at the system level
  • Experience with EMI root-cause investigation and corrective action development across integration and test
  • Familiarity with HERO/HERP/HERF, self-compatibility, and lightning/HIRF protection analysis
  • Proficient with MS Office applications, especially Excel; strong written and verbal communication skills

• Must be a US Citizen; must possess or be able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance

Desired Skills

  • LM/MFC E3 design experience and missile/sensor program experience
  • Experience with the MFC Design Assurance / DAR process
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills
  • Experience with safety boards and range safety requirements (RCC 319, MIL-STD-1316, JOTP-051, MIL-STD-1901)
  • Experience with electromagnetic simulation tools (CST, HFSS, or equivalent) for platform-level shielding and coupling analysis
  • Experience leading HERO/HERP/HERF and self-compatibility/co-site interference analysis across host platforms
  • Experience with lightning and HIRF protection design, analysis, and test
  • Experience managing EMC compliance data packages and customer-facing test witness events
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional hardware, systems, and test engineering teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop creative solutions
