Lockheed Martin is the largest defence contractor in the world, formed in 1995 by merging Lockheed Corporation with Martin Marietta and headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. Its single most important programme is the F-35 Lightning II, the most expensive weapons system ever built, alongside the F-16, the C-130 transport and classified work at the Skunk Works advanced development unit. The company also dominates missile defence with THAAD and PAC-3 interceptors, supplies HIMARS and Javelin systems, owns the helicopter maker Sikorsky, and builds the Orion crew capsule and military satellites through its space division.

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a full-time Principal Software Engineer with a strong systems-architecture and software-leadership background to define, drive, and deliver advanced software architectures for the TSWS (Theater Strike Weapon Systems) Portfolio of programs. In this senior technical leadership role, you will translate customer mission needs into implementable designs, resolve complex integration challenges, and guide technical decisions from concept through deployment and sustainment. Basic Qualifications

  • Own and deliver architecture through requirements, integration, and verification of operational systems
  • Apply deep technical expertise to evaluate cross-disciplinary design choices in software-intensive systems
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to resolve complex technical and organizational challenges involving customers, suppliers, or partners
  • Translate engineering decisions into measurable outcomes for cost, schedule, risk, and customer value; brief executives and non-specialist stakeholders with clear recommendations

Desired Skills

  • Senior leadership experience as a principal engineer, lead architect, deputy chief engineer, or technical lead for complex defense programs or product portfolios
  • Expertise in MBSE (Cameo/SysML), architecture governance, product-line reuse, and Agile/DevSecOps/embedded-distributed software delivery
  • Experience supporting technical proposals, R&D investments, technology maturation, supplier oversight, and earned value management (EVM)
  • Domain knowledge in mission-critical systems (avionics, communications, autonomy, sensors) with familiarity into applicable safety and certification standards
