Senior Backend Engineer

We're hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to build and scale the core logic behind Lucio's AI-native legal platform. This role is focused on designing high-performance backend systems that power document intelligence, AI workflows, and complex legal use cases. You'll work closely with AI engineers and product teams to take models, prompts, and research outputs and turn them into reliable, production-ready backend services. The role is hands-on, ownership-driven, and directly impacts how legal professionals experience Lucio in day-to-day workflows.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Python.
• Develop asynchronous workflows and task pipelines for AI and document-heavy processing.
• Integrate Generative AI and ML models into backend systems used in production.
• Build and optimize document processing pipelines involving OCR, parsing, and large unstructured files.
• Implement APIs and services that support high-volume, low-latency use cases.
• Work closely with AI, frontend, QA, and product teams to deliver complete features.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to architectural discussions.
• Debug production issues and improve system robustness over time.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience building backend systems in production.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python and backend frameworks/tools (Flask, Celery, Gevent, etc. ).
• Solid understanding of Generative AI and Machine Learning fundamentals.
• Experience integrating LLMs or ML models into backend applications.
• Exposure to OCR tools, document processing, and large unstructured data.
• Strong grasp of asynchronous processing and distributed backend systems.
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment.
• High ownership, strong problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
