Android Engineer / LINE Sticker

Position Outline

In this role, you will be responsible for developing sticker-related features for the LINE Android app.

Stickers are one of the core features that support the communication experience on LINE. While new features and improvement initiatives are continuously being developed, strengthening the Android development organization is also an important priority.

In addition to feature development, you will contribute to improving a large-scale codebase. By leveraging technologies such as Jetpack Compose and Kotlin Coroutines to drive the transition toward a modern architecture to improve development efficiency and maintainability.

The LINE app is a global project developed by client engineers across multiple locations, including Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam. You will have the opportunity to tackle technical challenges unique to a large-scale service while considering compatibility with other modules and the overall application architecture.

In particular, you will have chance to contribute to modernizing the foundation of the Sticker Recommendation feature, which suggests stickers based on the content of users' chats. Through this system modernization, we aim to build a development platform that enables new business ideas and A/B tests to be implemented quickly, allowing us to deliver value to users faster.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and operate sticker-related features for the LINE Android app as part of a Scrum team
• Develop new features and improve existing core functionality that supports the LINE communication experience, including Sticker Recommendation
• Migrate to a modern Android architecture using technologies such as Jetpack Compose and Kotlin Coroutines, and refactor existing systems
• Design solutions and address technical challenges while ensuring consistency with the architecture of the large-scale LINE app
• Design and implement unit tests to ensure application robustness
• Optimize application performance and continuously improve product quality
• Leverage your engineering expertise to propose product ideas, technology choices, and system designs
• Collaborate with team members and share technical knowledge through code reviews and technical discussions
• Maintain development documentation and continuously improve development processes
• Collaborate with development teams across multiple locations, including Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam

Required Skills ＆ Experience

• At least five years of professional software development experience using Kotlin
• Solid foundational knowledge of computer science
• Experience working in a team-based development environment with code reviews
• Hands-on experience with modern Android development practices, including Jetpack Compose and Kotlin Coroutines
• Business-level proficiency in either English or Japanese

Preferred Skills ＆ Experience

• Experience in developing applications that interact with web servers
• Experience in developing large-scale applications
• Experience in communicating with team members in English
• Experience using AI in software development

Salary

Expected annual salary: JPY 10,000,000 to JPY 12,000,000

Form of salary: Monthly salary (including fixed overtime allowance)

Standard monthly salary: JPY 667,000 to JPY 801,000

-Base salary: JPY 517,000 to JPY 622,000

-Fixed overtime allowance: JPY 149,000 to JPY 179,000

Fixed overtime allowance of 35 hours will be provided, regardless of whether overtime work is performed.

Note 1: Overtime allowance is paid separately for overtime work in excess of the fixed 35 hours.

Note 2: Names of items related to monthly salary vary depending on the grades.

Bonuses are granted a maximum of two times a year. The amount is determined by factors including the company's and your department's performance.

*1 You will be paid for the number of days you actually came to the office. (Maximum of JPY150,000/month)

Type of employment: permanent employee (no fixed period of employment, 3-month trial period)

Work Location

Hakata Fukami Office (Hakata Fukami Park Bldg, 4-14-1 Hakata-Ekimae, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka)

*The office at which you work upon hire will be your assigned location. Thereafter, there is a possibility of reassignment to all business locations as determined by the company.

*The offices are wheelchair accessible.

*Note on measures against passive smoking: In principle, no smoking indoors (smoking rooms are available).

Work Hours

• Flextime system: standard work hours 7 hours 45 minutes (no core hours)
  • Start and end times are up to the individual. However, the company's standard working hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.
• Shortened working hours system available for childcare and caregiving.

*Some departments may operate on the standard work hours (9:30 a.m. - 6:15 p.m.), while others may have a shift schedule.

Holidays and Leave

• Days Off: Two days off per week (Saturdays and Sundays*1), national holidays, New Year's holiday (December 29 to January 4)

• Leave: Paid leave, special paid leave (for condolence, maternity, sick childcare, nursing care, legally-designated communicable disease, etc.), Happy Friday*2, sabbatical leave

*2 When a public holiday falls on a Saturday, employees will be given the previous business day off.
