Constructability Review Specialist - Pre-Bid Plan Review, K-12 Construction

The Work

LAUSD's Project Execution group delivers the District's school construction projects. As Constructability Review Specialist, you support the Design Manager and the Owner Authorized Representative during design and preconstruction, reviewing each project's scope, schedule, and construction documents before they go to bid.

You help define and review the scope of work and schedule in the Project Requirement Document, including interim housing requirements. Early in design you recommend value engineering, meaning changes that lower cost without reducing what the building is required to do. As the drawings progress, you review the design team's documents for inconsistencies, ambiguities, conflicts, errors, and omissions, with the goal of reducing contractor requests for information and change orders during construction.

You make sure the documents are coordinated across the design disciplines and you prepare a comprehensive constructability review of the pre-bid construction documents, working collaboratively with the Design Manager and the Owner Authorized Representative.

What You Will Own

Definition and review of the Project Requirement Document scope of work and schedule, including interim housing requirements

Value engineering recommendations at the start of design

Written comments on design deliverables identifying inconsistencies, ambiguities, conflicts, errors, and omissions, to reduce RFIs and change orders

Coordination of the construction documents across design disciplines

Comprehensive constructability review of pre-bid construction documents

Requirements

What You Bring (one of the following)

15 years of full-time professional experience with a degree in architecture, including 10 years as a Construction Administrator on public or educational facility construction projects, fully responsible for supporting those projects, and 5 years as a Designer. Projects of $8 million or more individually, or $80 million or more combined

15 years of full-time professional experience as a Project Superintendent or Project Manager on public or educational facility construction or large commercial projects, fully responsible for coordinating complex projects, with at least one project over $30 million and $400 million or more combined

At least 2 years of college coursework from a recognized college, university, or trade school, plus 5 additional years of experience, may substitute for the degree requirement

Also Required

Writing RFCs and reviewing submittals and change orders

Microsoft Word, Excel, and Bluebeam

The ability to work quickly, efficiently, and confidently

Compensation

Salary range: $191,000 to $210,000 per year, based on experience.
