Mach Industries is an American defense technology and advanced manufacturing company. Founded in 2022 by Ethan Thornton and headquartered in Huntington Beach, California (with facilities in Austin and San Luis Obispo), the venture-backed startup develops autonomous defense hardware, strike munitions, and novel hydrogen-powered propulsion systems designed for scalable, high-volume manufacturing.

About Mach Industries

Founded in 2023, Mach Industries is a rapidly growing defense technology company focused on developing next-generation autonomous defense platforms. At the core of our mission is the commitment to delivering scalable, decentralized defense systems that enhance the strategic capabilities of the United States and its allies. With a workforce of approximately 350 employees, we operate with startup agility and ambition.

Our vision is to redefine the future of warfare through cutting-edge manufacturing, innovation at speed, and unwavering focus on national security. We are dedicated to solving the next generation of warfare with lethal systems that deter kinetic conflict and protect global security.

The Role

Mach Industries is seeking a Test Engineer to build, instrument, and test mechanical and electro-mechnical systems. In this hands-on role, you’ll work closely with mechanical, avionics, mechanisms, and flight sciences teams to develop test solutions, execute experiments, analyze results, and rapidly iterate designs.

You will support development across a product’s lifecycle, from component, coupon, or subscale testing to systems and vehicle level qualification. You will also help expand Mach’s test capabilities by developing test fixtures, instrumentation, automation, and lab infrastructure.

At Mach Industries, we are redefining the future of defense through advanced, scalable platforms. As a Test Engineer, you will play a key role in prototyping and refining mechanical systems, and optimizing designs for performance, survivability, and scalability. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, you’ll help shape the next wave of defense technologies, from concept to deployment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute hands-on testing, from vehicle level qualification and design validation to subscale and coupon based testing.

  • Own the mechanical design and development of test hardware and infrastructure including integrating mechanical systems with sensors, actuators, and embedded control hardware.

  • Work with mechanical, avionics, and mechanisms teams to gather requirements, author test plans, leads test readiness reviews, execute testing, and post process data.

  • Support prototyping build and test efforts in conjunction with mechanical teams for design iteration

  • Develop testing capability through hardware procurement and lab automation as well as setting test standards, guidelines, and best practices.

  • Develop test or scripting automation in support of data acquisition, test execution, data processing, or reporting via Python, MatLab, or equivalent.

  • Ability to support critical development and test milestones, including occasional extended hours and weekends as needed

Required Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience testing systems for aerospace, automotive, electronics, or a similar type field

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Math or Physics

  • Strong hands-on problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary environment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware and test setups systematically, identify root causes, and communicate findings clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Math or Physics

  • Strong skills in 3D modeling with CAD tools (e.g., NX, SolidWorks, etc.)

  • Familiarity with common aerospace test standards or guidelines such as MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-160, or ASTM standards.

  • 3+ years of experience testing systems for aerospace, automotive, electronics, or a similar type field

Additional Requirements

  • Available to work extended hours and weekends as needed
