Staff Backend Engineer

Responsibilities:

• Lead backend architecture and system design for core data and marketing platforms.
• Make technical trade-offs regarding scalability, reliability, maintainability, and cost.
• Partner with product managers and business teams to refine requirements and align scope/timelines.
• Own stakeholder communication, risk management, and technical alignment.
• Lead post-incident reviews and implement resilience improvements.
• Design, develop, and deliver scalable, secure, high-performance backend systems.
• Analyse and understand existing legacy systems and their limitations.
• Write clean, well-documented, maintainable, and testable code.
• Champion Agile practices and participate in the full development lifecycle.
• Perform and participate in code reviews, ensuring quality standards.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of experience designing and leading backend systems at scale.
• Strong experience with APIs (gRPC, REST).
• Proficiency in Go (preferred), Python/Django, or Java/Spring.
• Strong CI/CD and DevOps experience.
• Experience building cloud-based systems (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Strong experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with RDBMS and NoSQL databases.
• Ability to choose appropriate technologies considering cost and trade-offs.
• Experience across the full software development lifecycle.
• Ability to define SLAs, SLOs, and error budgets.
• Strong leadership in agile environments and mentoring.
• Familiarity with security best practices, encryption, access control, GDPR, and ISMS.
