A.P. Moller-Maersk is a Danish shipping and logistics group founded in 1904 that operates one of the largest container fleets in the world and has spent the past several years trying to become an integrated logistics company rather than only a carrier. The strategic argument is that container shipping is a brutally cyclical commodity business, while contract logistics, warehousing and air freight produce steadier earnings and deeper customer relationships. Headquartered in Copenhagen and controlled by the Moller family foundation, it also operates APM Terminals, one of the largest port terminal networks globally.

About the Role:

The Head of Terminal Procurement - Latin America is accountable for defining and executing the terminal procurement strategy across the Latin America region, ensuring cost leadership, operational resilience, and strong strategic partnerships with terminal operators. The role leads regional terminal sourcing, contract negotiations, and supplier relationship management, while working closely with Ocean, Network, and Operations stakeholders to support network performance and long-term capacity needs.

This position plays a critical role in managing commercial exposure, negotiating complex terminal agreements, and ensuring contracts are executed with discipline and transparency. Additionally, the role supports ocean investment opportunities through structured analysis and preparation, providing commercial, cost, and risk assessments related to terminal footprint, capacity transitions, and long-term infrastructure options.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead terminal procurement for Latin America, defining and executing sourcing and negotiation strategies that support cost leadership, network resilience, and long-term capacity needs.

  • Own end-to-end terminal commercial management, including major negotiations, contract structures, governance, benefit realization, and management of commercial exposure and risk.

  • Support ocean investment opportunities through structured analysis and preparation, providing fact-based assessments on terminal footprint, concessions, expansions, capacity transitions, and contractual implications to inform investment discussions.

  • Lead senior supplier relationships with key terminal operators and port authorities, driving performance management, disciplined escalation, and long-term partnership development.

  • Act as the primary terminal procurement interface to Ocean, Network, Operations, Product, and Finance, delivering executive-ready insights, scenarios, and negotiation context.

  • Lead and develop the Latin America Terminal Procurement team, setting clear priorities, strengthening analytical and negotiation capability, and ensuring consistent ways of working.

  • Ensure compliance, ESG, and risk management, including adherence to procurement governance, sustainability follow-up with suppliers, and proactive mitigation of operational, commercial, and reputational risks.

What You Bring:

Long Term Strategic & Commercial Thinking

Ability to think beyond near-term negotiations and costs, with a strong understanding of market/port complex projections and network dynamics, and to shape options that support the long-term ocean strategy.

Analytical Rigor & Structured Procurement Approach

Strong ability to apply a disciplined, fact-based way of working across procurement plays, including market analysis, cost and performance drivers, option structuring, and clear trade-off articulation. Capable of turning complex data into actionable insights that shape sourcing strategy, negotiations, and execution.

Negotiation & Contract Leadership

Proven leader of complex, high-value terminal negotiations with strong discipline around contract structures, governance, and commercial exposure.

Team Leadership, Engagement & Development

Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams, create engagement and clarity of direction, build commercial and analytical capability, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Senior Stakeholder Influence & Collaboration

Ability to work confidently with senior internal stakeholders and external executives, collaborating across functions, influencing outcomes through facts and insight, and navigating complexity with clarity and judgement.

Spanish language capability is highly important given the regional scope of the role.
