A.P. Moller-Maersk is a Danish shipping and logistics group founded in 1904 that operates one of the largest container fleets in the world and has spent the past several years trying to become an integrated logistics company rather than only a carrier. The strategic argument is that container shipping is a brutally cyclical commodity business, while contract logistics, warehousing and air freight produce steadier earnings and deeper customer relationships. Headquartered in Copenhagen and controlled by the Moller family foundation, it also operates APM Terminals, one of the largest port terminal networks globally.

At Maersk, we have a vision that’s larger than the ocean: to be a true integrator of container logistics, connecting and simplifying our customers’ supply chains through global end-to-end solutions.

Our people make that possible.

We’re looking for an experienced People Partner / HR Manager to join us at our new site in Doncaster. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a new operation, partnering closely with site leadership and helping to build a positive, engaging and high-performing working environment from the outset.

As part of our wider UK HR team, you’ll combine strong generalist HR expertise with a particular strength in Employee Relations, providing trusted advice, coaching and challenge to leaders across a broad range of people matters.

We’re particularly interested in hearing from candidates with strong Employee Relations experience and a background within warehousing, logistics or a similarly fast-paced operational environment.

What we offer

This is a varied, hands-on HR role where no two days are quite the same.

You’ll be a visible and trusted HR partner to the site leadership team, providing guidance and support across everything from employee relations and organisational change to performance, talent, engagement and the wider people agenda.

As part of a new site, you’ll also have the opportunity to help establish and embed effective people practices and ways of working, supporting leaders and colleagues as the operation develops.

You’ll work collaboratively with HR Business Partners, People Advisory colleagues and our Centres of Excellence, while remaining close to the day-to-day operation and the people who make it happen.

Key responsibilities

As our People Partner / HR Manager, you will:

  • Partner with site Operations, HR Business Partners and People Advisory teams to support the delivery of our People Strategy.
  • Build strong relationships with leaders and their teams, acting as a trusted adviser and key point of contact on people-related matters.
  • Provide expert advice and coaching on Employee Relations, including complex and sensitive cases.
  • Support and guide leaders through matters including absence, performance, disciplinary and grievance processes.
  • Coach managers to build their confidence and capability in managing people matters effectively and consistently.
  • Support organisational change and business transformation initiatives.
  • Drive the local delivery of the annual HR cycle, including performance management, compensation, succession planning and development.
  • Help establish and embed effective HR policies, processes and ways of working across the new Doncaster operation.
  • Ensure people practices remain aligned with UK employment legislation and company policies.
  • Support TUPE activity where required.
  • Partner with leaders to identify talent, encourage development and support internal mobility across the organisation.
  • Use people data and insights to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Deliver HR training, workshops and coaching sessions for leaders and employee groups.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding and other site-based people activities where required.
  • Work collaboratively across the wider HR organisation to provide a consistent and effective HR service.

Who we are looking for

We’re looking for a credible, confident and approachable HR professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced, operational environment and building strong relationships with the leaders and teams they support.

You’ll bring broad HR knowledge, but we are particularly interested in candidates who have developed a strong Employee Relations specialism and are confident managing and advising on complex ER matters.

Experience within a warehousing or logistics environment would be highly desirable, giving you an understanding of the pace, complexity and people challenges associated with a busy site-based operation.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • Solid generalist HR experience, ideally gained within warehousing, contract logistics, supply chain, manufacturing or another fast-paced operational environment.
  • Previous warehousing experience would be highly desirable.
  • Strong Employee Relations expertise, with experience supporting and advising on complex and sensitive ER cases.
  • Confidence coaching and advising managers on absence, performance, disciplinary, grievance and wider employee matters.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and its practical application.
  • Experience in performance management, employee engagement, organisational change and people development.
  • Experience interpreting and applying HR policies and processes.
  • The ability to balance commercial requirements with fair, consistent and pragmatic people solutions.
  • Experience working within a large or complex organisation and navigating multiple stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong business partnering skills, with the confidence to coach, challenge and influence leaders.
  • Experience within a unionised environment would be beneficial.
  • TUPE experience would be advantageous.
  • Strong change management, coaching and facilitation skills.
  • The ability to take ownership and work autonomously while remaining collaborative and team-focused.
  • Resilience and adaptability, with the ability to navigate change and ambiguity.
  • A proactive, energetic and solutions-focused approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
