Manulife is a Canadian insurance and asset management group founded in Toronto in 1887, with the first Canadian prime minister as its founding president. It sells life and health insurance, annuities and retirement products in Canada, the United States under the John Hancock brand and across a dozen Asian markets, and runs Manulife Investment Management as a global asset manager for institutional and retail clients. Headquartered in Toronto and listed in Toronto, New York and Hong Kong, it earns a growing share of its profit in Asia and has been reducing its exposure to legacy long-term care liabilities through reinsurance transactions.

Manulife's Fund Events team is seeking a dynamic Manager to support the GWAM Canada business. In this role, you will provide expert operational support to help ensure the successful implementation of initiatives impacting Canadian Wealth Operations. You will apply your knowledge of fund operations and accounting across Canada and North America to assess risk, financial, accounting, and downstream operational impacts while building strong stakeholder relationships. This opportunity offers the chance to learn, develop, and excel within a team that values client satisfaction, performance, collaboration, and innovation. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports or formal people-management responsibilities. The Manager will provide operational leadership through subject-matter expertise, project coordination, stakeholder management, and influence.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and support the implementation of Canadian Operations projects and initiatives, including post-implementation support.

  • Engage with stakeholders to understand the scope, requirements, and impact of requests, and coordinate project-related tasks and activities with internal and external teams.

  • Identify operational or business risks associated with initiative implementation, create impact assessments, recommend mitigation strategies where applicable, and communicate risks and impacts to leadership and downstream operations.

  • Ensure all fund system setups align with project requirements.

  • Liaise with custodians and valuation agents to communicate project requirements.

  • Review operating models, develop appropriate workflows, and make recommendations on implementation strategies.

  • Document process improvement projects thoroughly and ensure they adhere to best practices.

  • Develop tools, practices, and controls to improve operational efficiency and information quality.

  • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external business partners and stakeholders.

  • Ensure each initiative complies with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Required Qualifications:

  • More than 7 years of relevant experience in the financial industry.

  • University degree, preferably in accounting or finance.

  • Experience and knowledge in fund accounting and back-office operations.

  • Solid understanding of the financial services industry, investment funds, insurance funds, and investment securities products.

  • In-depth knowledge of fund operations and accounting in Canada and North America.

  • Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to represent the team, communicate service level expectations, and manage competing priorities effectively.

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to contribute to a team environment that values knowledge sharing, peer reviews, mutual support, and collective problem-solving.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, innovative thinking, and high attention to detail with a commitment to quality results.

  • Highly organized self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and accountability, the ability to work independently, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Reliable, responsible, and dependable, with a proven ability to follow through on commitments.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree specialization in accounting or finance.

  • CPA or CFA designation.

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset. If the successful candidate is in Québec, proficiency in both languages will be required to support clients from various provinces outside of Quebec.

When you join our team:

  • We'll empower you to learn and grow the career you want.

  • We'll recognize and support you in a flexible environment where well-being and inclusion are more than just words.

  • As part of our global team, we'll support you in shaping the future you want to see.
