Manulife is a Canadian insurance and asset management group founded in Toronto in 1887, with the first Canadian prime minister as its founding president. It sells life and health insurance, annuities and retirement products in Canada, the United States under the John Hancock brand and across a dozen Asian markets, and runs Manulife Investment Management as a global asset manager for institutional and retail clients. Headquartered in Toronto and listed in Toronto, New York and Hong Kong, it earns a growing share of its profit in Asia and has been reducing its exposure to legacy long-term care liabilities through reinsurance transactions.

MIM Asia Vendor Management provides regional governance and oversight across the third-party lifecycle for asset and wealth management operations in Asia. As a Senior Specialist, you will lead complex vendor governance, third-party risk, contract remediation, commercial support, and cross-functional initiatives across multiple markets.

The role offers the opportunity to work with senior stakeholders and strategic service providers, contribute to regional initiatives, and help shape Vendor Management governance and operating practices across MIM Asia.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead or coordinate onboarding, due diligence, periodic reviews, risk assessments, control reviews, issue remediation, renewals, and exit planning.

  • Interpret third-party risk requirements, clarify ownership, coordinate control functions, and maintain auditable records of decisions, approvals, evidence, and follow-up actions.

  • Coordinate contract amendments, security schedules, statements of work, fee schedules, renewals, onboarding activities, and execution workflows.

  • Provide structured vendor oversight through service reviews, KPI and issue tracking, incident follow-up, business continuity inputs, and escalation coordination.

  • Support RFPs, provider evaluations, commercial analyses, negotiation workstreams, new products, fund launches, and operating-model changes.

  • Develop governance tools, responsibility matrices, service inventories, control documentation, trackers, and management reporting.

  • Act as a senior resource for complex Vendor Management matters and support procedures, process maps, training materials, cross-training, and knowledge transfer.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant financial services experience, including at least 5 years in vendor management, third-party risk, operations, procurement, contract governance, regional project delivery, or a related role.

  • Experience leading complex initiatives, projects, or cross-functional workstreams involving multiple stakeholders.

  • Working knowledge of the third-party lifecycle, including onboarding, due diligence, contracting, oversight, remediation, renewal, and exit planning.

  • Experience reviewing or coordinating contracts, amendments, statements of work, fee schedules, security requirements, and execution workflows.

  • Understanding of third-party risk, operational risk, information security, compliance, business continuity, records, and audit-readiness concepts.

  • Strong analytical judgment and ability to work through incomplete or conflicting information while maintaining data quality and source discipline.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across business teams, control functions, external providers, and senior stakeholders.

  • Strong Microsoft 365 and Excel skills, including reporting, analysis, logical formulas, data management, and structured trackers.

  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and remain composed in complex or time-sensitive situations.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant business experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience within asset management, wealth management, investment operations, custody, fund administration, trustee, transfer agency, audit, sub-advisory, retirement, or related financial services functions.

  • Experience working in regional or global matrix organizations with geographically dispersed stakeholders.

  • Experience supporting RFPs, vendor evaluations, negotiations, contract remediation, or new-product and fund-launch initiatives.

  • Experience with process improvement, operating-model design, process documentation, RACI development, or governance frameworks.

  • Experience with Ivalua, ProcessUnity, Archer, SharePoint, Power Platform, automation, AI-enabled productivity tools, or similar platforms.

  • Relevant certification in project management, procurement, risk, finance, audit, compliance, information security, Lean, or Six Sigma.
