Engineer - Product Development
Based at Silueta, Biyagama
Drive the development and commercialization of innovative products by ensuring designs meet customer expectations, quality requirements, profitability targets, and production feasibility. The role is responsible for managing product development activities from concept to production readiness while collaborating with cross functional stakeholders to ensure seamless execution and successful product launches.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead product development activities by following established development processes and providing the necessary technical guidance to ensure the accuracy and quality of product samples, prototypes, and production ready outputs.
Collaborate with Marketing teams to develop and manage Time & Action (T&A) plans, ensuring all development milestones are achieved within agreed timelines.
Provide accurate technical and product information required for costing and pricing activities to support commercial decision making.
Develop and maintain technical specification packages, ensuring all product requirements are clearly communicated for pilot runs and pre production activities.
Work closely with Tech Pack teams to provide information required for Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical documentation, and production initiation processes.
Plan, coordinate, and execute integration trials, technical line trials (TLT), mini bulk runs, and product validation activities to ensure products meet quality and performance standards.
Identify technical challenges during product development and provide effective solutions to support successful pilot and production outcomes.
Participate in pilot appraisal and review meetings, provide technical recommendations, and ensure approved product specifications are communicated to relevant quality and production teams.
Guide Product Development Centre (PDC) operators during molding trials and development activities, ensuring compliance with technical requirements and development objectives.
Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the availability of required raw materials in the right quantity, quality, and timeframe to support development and sampling schedules.
Conduct feasibility assessments of new raw materials, technologies, and product concepts, supporting innovation and continuous product improvement initiatives.
Develop capacity plans based on demand forecasts and development requirements to ensure timely execution of product development projects.
Provide technical guidance, coaching, and training to team members to enhance product knowledge, technical competency, and overall team performance.
Knowledge and Skills:
Bachelor's Degree in Textile Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Development, Fashion Design, or a related discipline.
Professional qualifications or postgraduate studies in Product Development, Textile Technology, Manufacturing, Innovation, or related fields will be an added advantage.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across Product Development, Marketing, Quality, Production, and Supply Chain teams.
Sound understanding of product development processes, product lifecycle management, new product introduction (NPI), and commercialization activities.
Knowledge of product design principles, technical specifications, prototyping, testing, validation methodologies, and continuous improvement techniques.
Understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling, mold development, production planning, and process optimization.
Experience in preparing and managing technical documentation, Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical packs, and product specifications.
Knowledge of raw material evaluation, material performance analysis, feasibility assessments, and product performance requirements.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective technical solutions.
