Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Cheltenham, fully onsite
Duration: 6 months
Rate: Market rates (Inside IR35)
Clearance: SC clearable (start on BPSS), UK Eyes Only

Responsibilities

Design and document short-term safety mitigations for production test equipment (e.g., safety enclosures, mechanical modifications)
Contribute to long-term design changes to bring existing test equipment up to new safety standards
Review, capture, and document existing equipment designs
Produce and maintain mechanical drawings and supporting technical documentation
Coordinate closely with systems experts, safety team, operations, and other stakeholders
Deliver quick, efficient design outputs appropriate for a fast-paced production environment
Consider operator safety (immediate compliance) alongside longer-term maintainability and design direction

Skillset / Experience Required

Mechanical design engineering experience (ideally production / manufacturing / defence environment)
Strong SolidWorks capability (SolidWorks is available for new drawings)
Comfortable producing and interpreting mechanical drawings and technical documentation
Flexible, hands-on mindset-able to deliver pragmatic, compromise solutions quickly when needed
Strong communication and stakeholder management (safety/ops/systems collaboration)

Desirable

Experience with Creo and/or Visio (a lot of legacy drawings are currently in Visio)
Pneumatics exposure (advantageous, not mandatory)
