Compensation and Schedule
- Compensation: The hourly wage for this position is $30.49 for Class 4 bus operations (light-duty) and $35.88 for Class 2 bus operations (conventional).
- Schedule: Work assignments and available shifts are awarded based on seniority, in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
Knowledge and Experience
- Valid Class 1, Class 2, or Class 4 driver's license.
- Knowledge of defensive driving principles and safe vehicle operating practices.
- Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, the Motor Vehicle Act and/or Highway Traffic Act, depending on jurisdiction.
- Knowledge of Hours of Service Regulations and related compliance requirements.
- Strong commitment to passenger safety, customer service, and professionalism.
- Ability to operate transit vehicles safely in varying weather, road, and traffic conditions.
- Knowledge of accessibility requirements and the ability to assist passengers with mobility needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact respectfully with diverse passengers and community members.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergency or high-pressure situations.
- Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify and report vehicle defects or maintenance concerns.
- Ability to successfully complete a road test, criminal background check, and drug & alcohol screening as a condition of employment.
Considered an Asset
- A valid Air Brake Q Endorsement.
- Previous transit, passenger transportation, shuttle, school bus experience.
- Familiarity with transit vehicles and fare collection equipment.

- Willingness to work shifts, including split shifts, weekends, and statutory holidays (transit service operates 7 days per week, 21 hours per day).

Key Accountabilities
Safe Vehicle Operation and Maintenance
- Operate various types of transit vehicles on established routes following a published schedule.
- Observe all traffic laws and safety rules while adhering to time schedules.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety.
- Evaluate road conditions and mechanical issues, making necessary adjustments or arranging for assistance.
- Carry out emergency and accident procedures as required.
Passenger Experience and Communication
- Transport customers throughout the local region in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Courteously and professionally interact with customers, including assisting with mobility devices, answering inquiries, and making announcements.
- Issue transfers, collect fares, and ensure valid passes are presented.
- Communicate effectively with the public, dispatchers, and co-workers.
- De-escalate conflicts and resolve passenger concerns in a professional manner.
Reporting and Compliance
- Complete vehicle, operational, and incident reports accurately and in a timely manner.
- Report delays, mechanical issues, incidents, and accidents as required.
- Maintain accurate daily logbooks and records.
- Adhere to all applicable legislation, including the Motor Vehicle/Highway Traffic Act and Hours of Service Regulations.
- Continuously learn and adapt to new procedures, vehicle models, and technology.
