ME Long Teng is a leading manufacturer of high-quality grinding media for the worldwide mining industry. It is a joint venture between ME Elecmetal (a world-renowned supplier of milling solutions from Santiago Chile) and Long Teng Special Steel Co., Ltd (a premium steel products manufacturer based in Jiangsu China). The Company established its subsidiary in Zambia and constructed a world-class forged steel grinding media production plant in Kalumbila.

– This position reports directly to the Senior Procurement Officer of ME Longteng Grinding Media (z) Ltd.

The primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

• To consolidate all user department requirements for goods and services, and prepare an annual procurement plan for goods and services, which will also be updated on a quarterly basis;
• Receive procurement requests from user departments and clarify items specification with user department;
• Prepare and release requests for quotations in coordination with user departments, and ME LONG TENG policies;
• Ensure compliance with procurement procedures as per Procurement Policy
• Ensure that a minimum of three independent genuine quotations is obtained.
• Call for quotations for any items costing more than a certain amount (as per company policy) and enquire about prices from various suppliers.
• Evaluate quotation/bids received and prepare evaluation documentation for procurement files, including recommendation of vendors to user departments and/or
  the Senior Procurement Officer;
• Establish, maintain/manage relationships with suppliers including soliciting and negotiating quotes.
• Coordinate technical evaluation for procurements requiring procurement committees
• Prepare all vendor contract documents such as Local Purchase Orders (LPO);
• Ensure that all approved purchase orders are sent to their respective suppliers/ vendors for delivery purposes daily.
• Follow up on ME LONG TENG orders with contracted vendors to ensure timely delivery of goods and services, cultivating vendor relationships and ensuing product availability for user departments;
• Work closely with the Finance department to ensure timely payments to vendors for all ME LONG TENG contracts; as necessary escalate any issues that arise to heads of units and/or the Senior Procurement Officer;
• Obtain written approval for established minimum/maximum stock levels from the warehouse supervisor.
• Monitor supplier performance and follow up with vendors on performance issues as needed;
• Maintain a comprehensive filing system for auditable records for all procurement documentations;
• Ensure that vendor list is updated on a continuous basis.
• Sourcing for new suppliers to ensure competitiveness is always maintained.

• Degree in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management or Level Four (4) or 5 or 6 in Purchasing and Supply from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS)
• – Minimum 3 years’ relevant work experience in procurement
• Must be a fully paid-up member of the Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MZIPS) or fully paid-up member of the chartered institute of purchasing and supply (MCIPS).
• Analytical skills and ability to undertake complex analysis and price comparisons.
• Being conversant with ERP packages such as sage, SAP among others
• Certificates verified by Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA)
