Sr. Backend Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (individual contributor role, not a people manager). You will be the technical anchor of our foundational team, working directly with the CEO. You will build and own the core systems of our company (AWS infrastructure, data ingestion pipelines, data processing, data indexing, and developer platform, including fully automated CI/CD). This is a rare, de-risked startup opportunity. We aren't searching for a product-market fit or guessing what to build; our product roadmap is already validated by our deeply engaged customers, which include Fortune 500 corporations and AM Law 100 legal firms.

Responsibilities:

• Get developer velocity to 100x by architecting and building a new developer platform (including automated test creation and CI/CD). We envision a near future where almost all code can be Claude-generated, automatically tested via the robust guardrails that you build and deployed automatically to production. Fully automated ML and LLM GitOps need to be defined and built.
• New infra management platform to move from Infrastructure as Code' (conventional Terraform scripts) to a fully autonomous DevOps future.
• Improve patent search latency by 10x: Architect and build a new data storage, indexing and retrieval stack using a hybrid of conventional indexes like Elasticsearch, modern vector databases for embeddings, and graph search.
• Architect and build a fully autonomous data ingestion platform. We purchase data from enterprise data providers, and we also source it from public data, patent offices and government sources from different parts of the world and research publications.
• Data needs to be automatically validated, tested for accuracy and ingested autonomously.
• Build a product analytics and experimentation platform that will help the team experiment new features with different customers and measure outcomes.
• Make customer onboarding automatic (from days/weeks to minutes): Identity, RBAC, SSO, and provisioning are to be made fully self-service for customers.
• Build and own core systems end-to-end - design, implement, deploy, and scale high-performance, concurrent, and fault-tolerant microservices.

Requirements:

• 2+ years' experience with Java (Spring Boot) or Python (FastAPI).
• Building and designing microservices for production applications.
• Architecting and building secure and scalable microservices on AWS (relevant AWS services include EKS, EC2 RDS, IAM, and S3).
• Experience building with Claude Code or equivalent tools.
• Proven track record of architecting and building 0-to-1 applications or data platforms completely from scratch.
• Ability to thrive in zero-to-one environments and be comfortable wearing multiple hats.
