Senior accountant

Job Summary

The role is responsible for overseeing the organization's accounting and finance operations, ensuring tax and government compliance, accurate payroll and cash flow management, proper transaction processing, and timely financial reporting. The position also supports strategic financial planning, budgeting, internal controls, and coordination with external auditors, legal advisers, and banking partners, while ensuring compliance with Ethiopian tax regulations and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Tax, Withholding & Government Compliance

• Issue, track, and manage Withholding Tax Receipts for eligible transactions in full compliance with Ethiopian tax laws.
• Prepare, declare, and submit all mandatory monthly, quarterly, and annual government tax filings (including VAT, Withholding Tax, Income Tax, Pension, and Business Profit Tax) to the Ethiopian Revenue Customs Authority (ERCA) / Ministry of Revenues.
• Manage government audit processes, renewals, commercial registration requirements, and statutory body relationships.

Payroll & Cash Flow Management

• Prepare, process, and reconcile monthly staff and operational payroll, ensuring accurate deductions for income tax, pension, benefits, and incentives.
• Oversee corporate cash flow, daily petty cash management, bank reconciliations, and working capital optimization.

Transaction Processing & Documentation

• Handle, verify, and issue formal operational and sales receipts, cash vouchers, and invoices.
• Maintain complete, organized, and audit-ready accounting records, supporting vouchers, and financial archives.
• Manage vendor payments (Accounts Payable) and partner/client invoicing and collection (Accounts Receivable).

Monthly Financial Reporting & FP&A

• Prepare comprehensive Monthly Financial Reports, including Income Statements, Balance Sheets, Cash Flow Statements, and Variance Analyses for management review.
• Monitor operational budget expenditures and present insights on cost reduction and revenue performance.
• Conduct monthly account reconciliations across bank accounts, scouter/driver payout ledgers, and partner settlements.

Strategic Finance & Internal Controls

• Establish, implement, and maintain internal financial control systems to prevent discrepancies and ensure fiscal transparency.
• Assist executive leadership in financial planning, annual budgeting, and project financial feasibility analyses.
• Manage relationship with external auditors, legal advisers, and banking partners.

Experience:

• 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 2+ years in a senior accounting or finance leadership position.
• Direct hands-on experience dealing with Ethiopian tax regulations, ERCA e-tax systems, withholding tax management, and local statutory filings.
