The Contents Technician is responsible for the hands-on packing, cleaning, and restoration of customer contents affected by fire, water, or other covered losses, helping return items to pre-loss condition. This role documents and inventories customer belongings from the moment of pack-out through final return, maintaining accurate photographs, itemized records, and disposition notes throughout the process.

The Contents Technician communicates directly with customers with care and professionalism, inspects completed work for quality, and helps maintain the contents processing facility and equipment. This role supports the broader Contents team by keeping daily logs current and coordinating closely with Project Managers, Supervisors, and Managers to keep every job on track.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Contents Packing & Documentation

  • Photograph, identify, and inventory customer's contents at the time of pack-out.
  • Wrap, package, and label contents for transport to the cleaning facility.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of all processed contents and their disposition.
  • Complete a daily log of work performed.

Cleaning & Restoration

  • Unwrap, assess, and clean contents according to established procedures.
  • Identify, re-wrap, package, and label cleaned contents for storage or return.
  • Inspect completed work to confirm it meets quality standards.
  • Perform basic maintenance on contents cleaning equipment.

Customer Service & Communication

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with customers throughout the contents process.
  • Return cleaned and restored property to the customer once building restoration is complete.
  • Wait on shop customers as needed.

Facility & Shop Maintenance

  • Vacuum and maintain cleanliness of the shop.
  • Clean the shop bathroom and drying rooms.
  • Wash shop towels and moving blankets.
  • Pull trash and recycling.
  • Provide the Branch Manager with a list of supplies needed.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Determine the appropriate sequence of steps for cleaning and restoring each customer's contents.
  • Maintain timely and effective communication with Project Managers, Supervisors, and Managers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to apply basic math skills to determine appropriate equipment type and quantity needed for a job.
  • Basic proficiency with computers, email, and mobile devices used to record and report daily activity.
  • Familiarity with contents inventory or job-tracking software is a plus, or a fast learner.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in documentation and quality control.
  • Clear, professional communicator, comfortable interacting with customers in stressful situations.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • IICRC certification in contents processing or a related discipline is a plus, though not required for this position.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear, and is frequently required to stand and walk.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Work is carried out both on customer property and within the company's contents processing facility.
  • The employee may encounter properties without utilities or heat, fire damage, or mold and other organic growth, and should follow appropriate safety protocols and use provided personal protective equipment when handling contaminated or hazardous materials.
  • Daily exposure to the contents processing area where inventory, supplies, and equipment are stored and maintained is typical.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
