Staff Backend Engineer

Mesh is looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to help architect and build the foundation of the world's first global crypto payments network. In this role, you'll operate across the full stack, from backend systems to user-facing applications, driving key technical decisions and shaping the future of digital finance. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams across engineering, product, and design to lead the development of secure, seamless, and scalable financial experiences. As one of our most senior technical leaders, you'll play a critical role in defining system architecture, mentoring engineers, and influencing product strategy. We're especially excited to meet candidates based in Bangalore, where you'll collaborate closely with our core team and help drive our engineering culture from the ground up.

Responsibilities:

• Drive Architecture and Strategy: Own and drive technical architecture decisions, system designs, and roadmap implementation for multiple focus areas, balancing short- and long-term priorities against business needs.
• Cross-Functional Leadership: Provide technical leadership across engineering teams and collaborate closely with executive leadership, product managers, and design partners to set technical strategy.
• Core Engineering: Develop and maintain high-performance backend services and APIs.
• Cloud and Infrastructure: Work closely with Azure cloud services, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines for deployment, performance, and scalability.
• Quality and Reliability: Conduct thorough testing, debugging, and prompt resolution of software defects; create high-quality, efficient, and reliable code following best practices.
• Fintech and Crypto Focus: Build crypto-first, secure products to facilitate traditional financial activities (such as payments, settlements, and transfers).
• Scale and Performance: Optimize the performance and scalability of backend systems handling large data volumes and real-time transaction flows.
• DevSecOps Culture: Champion best practices in software engineering, infrastructure as code, API security, and DevSecOps on a project-wide level.

Requirements:

• Experience: 10+ years of overall software engineering experience, with at least 3 years dedicated to fintech or payments infrastructure.
• Core Technologies: Strong backend skills in one or more modern languages: C#, C++, Go, Java, or Python.
• Cloud-Native Mastery: Demonstrated proficiency in cloud-native development (Azure), Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD tooling.
• Security-First Mindset: Strong foundational knowledge of common security concepts such as AuthN, AuthZ, SAML, API security, and data encryption at rest and data encryption in transit.
• Web3 / Crypto Literacy: Solid understanding of core crypto concepts, including blockchains, RPCs, and self-custody wallets.
• Architecture Expertise: Deep understanding of RESTful API design principles and scalable microservices architecture.
• Startup Track Record: Prior experience leading engineering in a high-growth startup environment is a strong plus.
• Problem Solving: Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity and execute critical decisions under pressure.
