Firmware Engineer

Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. We are seeking a Firmware Engineer to join our team within SCHIE, where we build the foundational firmware that powers Microsoft Azure infrastructure, including its cutting-edge AI accelerator silicon. This role provides an opportunity to work across Azure custom-silicon programs and contribute directly to the firmware stack enabling Microsoft’s advanced AI workloads.

This role is targeting an immediate start date.

Responsibilities

• Designs, develops, debugs, tests, and releases firmware for Azure custom AI silicon programs, including development and testing on pre-silicon and post-silicon platforms.
• Collaborates with silicon, hardware, architecture, software, and firmware teams to deliver secure, production-grade firmware.
• Participates in and drive SoC bring-up and troubleshooting.
• Supports silicon deployment and operation in Microsoft datacenters.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field OR equivalent experience.

Additional/Preferred qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; or a bachelor’s degree in one of these fields plus two or more years of technical engineering and coding experience; or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency with Python, embedded Rust, Rust RTOSs and associated toolchains.
• Experience with SoC bring-up, firmware validation, embedded systems, test planning, debug, automation.
• Experience working in pre-silicon environments.

Firmware Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $85,400 - $168,100 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $111,100 - $183,700 per year.
