The Azure MultiModal Intelligence (MMI) team drives the development of advanced cognitive services across documents, video, image, and audio, powering scenarios such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), robotic automation processing (RAP), knowledge retrieval, agentic services and many more. Within this broad charter, we are seeking engineers to focus on advancing document intelligence-building best-in-class cloud and on-premises solutions that leverage deep learning and Large Language Models (LLMs) to help businesses automate document processing intelligently with AI.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a technically experienced, hands-on Software Engineer in building the next generation document understanding service. Key responsibilities include:

• Design, develop, and improve scalable components and capabilities for Azure Document Intelligence and Content Understanding services, with a focus on quality, reliability, performance, compliance and maintainability.
• Build and enhance testing, evaluation, automation, and telemetry to measure product quality, identify regressions, and continuously improve service performance.
• Effectively leverage AI-assisted development to accelerate engineering productivity, while applying technical judgment to validate AI-generated output and maintaining full ownership of delivered solutions.
• Collaborate across engineering and product teams to design and deliver innovative, customer-focused solutions.

Qualifications

Qualification

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of software engineering experience designing, developing, testing, and operating production software systems.
• Demonstrated backend development skills, with experience in one or more of the following: Azure or other cloud platforms, C#/Python/C++, REST APIs, SQL, CI/CD, DevOps, containers, and distributed services.
• Equipped with problem-solving, coding, debugging, and system design skills, with a demonstrated focus on quality, performance, reliability, and engineering excellence
• Ability to effectively leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, while applying sound engineering judgment to review, test, and validate AI-generated outputs and maintaining accountability for delivered solutions.
