DASHX Engineering team focus areas:

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality Windows features and system experiences, working across Windows platform components, system services, APIs, diagnostics infrastructure, and user-facing experiences.
• Build capabilities that help Windows understand, diagnose, and surface device, application, process, performance, and reliability state. Develop experiences that help users identify and resolve system issues.
• Develop and improve capabilities related to CPU, memory, disk, network, GPU, energy, and other system resources, with a focus on performance, efficiency, accuracy, and actionable insights.
• Build modern, responsive, and accessible Windows experiences, including investments in areas such as Task Manager and other system management, diagnostics, and troubleshooting experiences.
• Apply AI technologies to Windows scenarios where they can improve diagnostics, troubleshooting, automation, insights, and user experiences. Bring proven experience developing or integrating AI-powered capabilities into production software.
• Design solutions that span application, service, and operating system boundaries. Develop robust interfaces and integrations while maintaining compatibility, reliability, security, and performance.
• Build solid automated, integration, regression, accessibility, performance, and compatibility validation across diverse Windows hardware, applications, and system configurations.
• Use telemetry, diagnostics, experimentation, dashboards, and data pipelines to understand product behavior, reliability, performance, failures, and end-to-end user experiences.
• Drive features through design, implementation, experimentation, flighting, localization, validation, deployment, and production rollout using Windows engineering and release processes.
• Maintain high engineering standards across security, privacy, accessibility, performance, reliability, compatibility, compliance, code quality, and operational readiness.

Responsibilities

• You will be part of a software engineering team working on Task Manager and other system tools/components. You will own multiple features from end to end-from architecture and implementation to testing, deployment, monitoring, and support-allowing you to build broad technical knowledge while developing deep expertise in key areas.
• As you are tasked to solve complex Windows customer-reported problems, you will have an opportunity to build solid Windows internals fundamentals that go a long way in your career, learn how to write secure code, and pick up debugging skills in a team environment.
• Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Writes and learns to create code that is extensible and maintainable. Considers diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability with few defects, and understands when the code is ready to be shared and delivered. Applies AI tools to gain productivity and efficiency, coding patterns and best practices to write code.
• Develops clear, well-articulated test plans, defines success criteria for outcomes such as unit tests, and improves coverage by adding new tests, removing outdated ones, and consolidating related tests. Contributes to broader test-case coverage and incorporates automation into test planning.
• Identifieseffortsto integrate instrumentation for gathering telemetry data on system behavior such as performance, reliability, availability, usage, and safety mechanisms

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C++
  • OR equivalent experience.

Additional Qualifications

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C++ OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C++
  • OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
