About the Team & How We Work:
Miter is helping contractors re-design their businesses, giving them tools to better manage the complex workflows and challenges they face in the back office and at the job site. We’re in the early days of our journey, and the potential to transform construction for the better is massive.
Design is AI first and builder-led at Miter. We leverage tools like Cursor and Claude to move quickly from idea to concept, explore flows and interactions, and then progress to Figma and Storybook for systems and polish. We stay close to the customer, ship quickly to learn, and embrace new ways of working.
As Staff Product Designer, you’ll play a critical role by leading design strategy and execution. You’ll meet with our customers to learn about their unique needs and workflows. You’ll collaborate daily with product and engineering, enabling the team to ship features that raise the bar on quality and user experience (and even shipping small features of your own). And you’ll play a key role shaping how we leverage AI to deliver consistent, delightful UX.
What You’ll Do:
Own design strategy and execution (interaction design, design system and componentry) across the Miter platform
Partner closely with peers in engineering and product (as well as cross-functional teams at Miter) to shape the user experience for both new and existing Miter apps
Work directly with our customers to learn how they use Miter and how it fits into the complex workflows that they use to run their business
Help shape the vision for AI capabilities at Miter and bring a user-centered lens to AI-powered functionality
Experiment with new AI tools, processes, and ways of working across product, design, and engineering
Operate with pragmatism and a first-principles approach to help the team deliver value to customers quickly and consistently
What You’ll Need:
7+ years in product design at a high-growth software company
Strong user-centered design skills - you have a keen understanding user-centered design principles, usability, and accessibility standards, demonstrated through a strong portfolio of work
Strong leadership and collaboration skills - you have a track record of working effectively with product, engineering and cross-functional teams to define design requirement and align on goals
A bias for action and delivery - You’d rather get something valuable in front of customers from this week than perfect it for a month. You understand the benefit of shipping incremental value and optimizing for rapid learning
You are AI-native in how you work - you are eager to leverage AI tools to extend what and how you build, and to accelerate teams around you
0-1 Delivery - you are adept at prototyping, running design experiments, and delivering incrementally to unlock insights and launch new products

Hybrid vs. Remote Approach:
We believe the magic of Miter comes from working side by side. We also believe in work flexibility. For roles that are listed ashybrid, our approach is 3 days a week in the office giving us the chance to connect, brainstorm, and build stronger relationships. If you live within a reasonable commute to either our New York City or San Francisco offices, we ask that you work in our hybrid approach.
Otherwise, for roles listed as remote or in other cities where we don't have an office location, there is no requirement to work in our hybrid approach. We do travel a few times a year for onboarding, company-wide and team specific off-sites!

What information it uses: The tool evaluates the application materials you submit (your resume and any other application content) against role-specific criteria our team has defined. It does not pull information from external sources such as social media or professional networking profiles, and personal identifying information is removed from your materials before any AI review takes place.
Human oversight: Our recruiting team periodically reviews how these tools are performing to check for unintended patterns in outcomes, and we retain the ability to override any AI-generated assessment at any time.
