To support the growth of our business and drive payments innovation we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Software Engineering Team Lead to take the reins of the core payments domain. This function is dedicated to enhancing our account to account, scheme, cards, digital assets and other payment services and delivering exceptional user experiences through innovative, contemporary technology solutions.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to take ownership of one of the most critical engineering domains at Monoova - the technology that powers our core payments platform.

As Engineering Manager, you’ll lead a high-performing team of engineers responsible for building, enhancing and scaling the platforms behind Monoova’s account-to-account, scheme, cards, digital assets and broader payment capabilities.

The role combines people leadership, technical direction and delivery ownership. You’ll work closely with the CTO and wider Product and Technology teams to shape the technical roadmap, set engineering priorities and ensure we continue to deliver secure, resilient and scalable payment solutions.

You’ll play a key role in developing engineering capability across the team - coaching and mentoring engineers, driving high performance and creating an environment where people can do their best work.

With Monoova continuing to scale, you’ll also have the opportunity to influence how we evolve our engineering practices, architecture and ways of working, including how we leverage emerging technologies such as AI-assisted and agentic software development.

Responsibilities and Key Performance Indicators

  • Develop, execute and operate the core payment platforms technical strategies and roadmaps by overseeing and driving delivery of a comprehensive core payments capability for Monoova’s clients
  • Drive planning and refinement of seasonal goals, ensuring there is alignment between the Company, group, and teams
  • Foster a culture of communication, bridging the communication gap between teams, internal stakeholder groups, and wider executive leadership
  • Invest in working with engineers on growth and development opportunities to help further their skillset and growth, with an ability to deliver relevant and timely feedback (positive & constructive) to help them to continuously improve and learn
  • Own and manage high-performance team including performance management, hiring.
  • Help to drive a high-performance and values-aligned culture within the Engineering team.
  • Adherence to all IT policies and procedures

  • Completion of all required compliance training and requirements
  • Specific additional ongoing quarterly goals as agreed with CTO and aligned to company OKRs

What we need from you

  • Self- starter who can take ownership, collaborate proactively and provide subject matter expertise
  • Ability to navigate high pressure environment at times
  • Mature stakeholder management including ability to translate technical terms and outcomes in business consumable information
  • Organisation and attention to detail is essential to this role
  • Ability to drive a cross-skilled team and positively influence others.

Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience with technical and people leadership - having previously led high-performance teams incl. practice lead, engineering manager, or equivalent roles
  • 10+ years professional experience in software development and delivery
  • Coding proficiency and subject matter expertise of object-oriented and service-oriented development techniques using RESTful interfaces
  • Expert understanding of relational and non-relational databases in the delivery of API’s and applications, especially Microsoft SQL Server and MongoDB technologies
  • Expert level knowledge of .NET technologies and C# as well as related testing, debugging and observability tooling/platforms
  • Experience with Azure cloud services supporting an event-based architecture including Azure APIM, Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure Service Bus, Azure Key Vault and Azure SQL.
  • Understanding of the requirements in designing and developing enterprise grade software, especially finance or payments systems.
  • Payments, banking, and financial industry experience
  • Experience with source control management systems and continuous integration / deployment environments/GitOps with Azure DevOps, GitHub & ArgoCD
  • Hands-on experience with the design, development, and deployment of payment software solutions with demonstrable product and commercial acumen
  • Exposure/experience with new ways of software delivery leveraging multi-model(LLM) agentic harnesses/platforms (GitHub Copilot preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; with the ability to work with a diverse range of individuals from different backgrounds and with different professional and personal needs
