Motorola Solutions is a global leader in public safety and enterprise security solutions, specializing in land mobile radio communications, video security, access control, and command center software. Created in 2011 following the spin-off of Motorola's mobile phone division, the Chicago-based company primarily serves law enforcement, emergency medical services, government agencies, and commercial enterprises. Its integrated ecosystem connects critical communications, AI-powered video analytics, and emergency dispatch systems to help organizations safeguard communities and operations.

Company Overview

At Motorola Solutions, we believe that everything starts with our people. We’re a global close-knit community, united by the relentless pursuit to help keep people safer everywhere. We build and connect technologies to help protect people, property and places. Our solutions foster the collaboration that’s critical for safer communities, safer schools, safer hospitals, safer businesses, and ultimately, safer nations. Connect with a career that matters, and help us build a safer future.

Department Overview

Guardian is a call taking & dispatching platform used by emergency service operators across the UK & Europe. We help 999 or 112 operators answer calls from the public and dispatch out nearby responders, enabling the right response when every second counts, and ultimately helping our customers save lives.

As our solution has grown from a small startup to one of the leading offerings for Fire & Police agencies, our customers now trust us to solve more of their problems. The Guardian team is distributed across the UK, with hubs in Glasgow, Rugby and Hemel. We currently have around 150 employees. We have a relaxed but hard working environment where jeans and t-shirts are the norm and good ideas and debate are encouraged. Our daily work is remote and often asynchronous, with workflows managed via Google Chat & collaborative documents in G-Suite. However, you’ll also have the opportunity to join us for frequent in person work & social events like post-work pints, Flight Club darts, or our annual all-hands in top European cities like Prague, Barcelona, and Krakow.

Job Description

This role is primarily remote with occasional travel to our UK & Poland office sites.

As the Engineering Manager, you will lead engineering teams and manage technical projects for the Guardian CAD platform using Scrum and Agile methodologies. You are a key driver of technical excellence and innovation, adopting a "hands-on" leadership approach to ensure product reliability, security, and high availability in mission-critical environments.

Beyond line management, you will review code, understand detailed technical workflows, and guide the team in shaping scalable software architectures.

Your responsibilities encompass a wide range of duties, including:

  • Technical Leadership & Architecture: Provide strong software architecture direction, guide system design decisions, perform code reviews, and stay deeply engaged with the technical execution of C# backend, database, and web application components.

  • AI Leadership & Culture: Lead by example in the integration of AI tools, mentoring your team on their usage to solve complex engineering challenges and driving a culture of innovation and efficiency.

  • Agile & Project Delivery: Manage software engineering teams and projects for Guardian CAD utilizing Scrum and Agile frameworks, facilitating effective iteration, planning, and delivery.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Networking: Utilize excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners, senior leadership, and external stakeholders, building strong internal and external networks.

  • Overseeing Development and Testing: Work directly with a team of engineers to plan, refine, and develop both conceptual prototypes and production-level functionality. You will oversee the testing process, in collaboration with Quality Assurance engineers and dedicated test teams, to ensure the final solution is free of defects in end-to-end delivery.
