At MUFG Retirement Solutions, we’re building a trusted, scalable, and responsible automation and AI ecosystem that supports better outcomes for our customers, our people, and our regulators.

We’re seeking an experienced Automation & Responsible AI Governance Lead to play a critical role in shaping how automation, analytics, and AI are governed, adopted, and scaled across our Chief Operations & Technology Office (COTO).

This is a strategic governance, coordination and assurance role, not a hands-on development position.

About the role

Reporting into the Head of Strategic Planning, Governance and Initiatives, under the COTO leadership team, this role is accountable for driving the identification, governance, adoption and value realisation of automation, analytics, and AI capabilities across MUFG Retirement Solutions.

You’ll act as the central point of coordination and oversight, ensuring all automation and AI initiatives-whether centrally delivered or locally developed-are:

  • Responsibly designed and deployed
  • Aligned to enterprise standards and regulatory expectations
  • Delivering measurable business value
  • Aligned to MUFG’s strategic objectives and ethical AI principles

You’ll partner closely with Technology, Risk, Data, Operations, and Transformation teams to identify automation opportunities, uplift and scale capability, strengthen controls, and embed trusted governance practices.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and maintain the Automation & AI Governance Framework, including standards, lifecycle controls, and approval pathways.
  • Provide a consolidated, enterprise view of automation, analytics, and AI activity across COTO, including risks, performance, and value delivered.
  • Support the automation and responsible AI strategy, aligned to the COTO roadmaps.
  • Define and embed value-realisation measures linked to efficiency, risk reduction, and customer experience outcomes.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies, regulatory trends, and industry best practice to ensure a future-fit automation posture.

Governance, Risk & Assurance

  • Maintain an up-to-date register of automation, analytics, and AI tools, including ownership, usage, risk classification, and compliance status.
  • Conduct independent governance and compliance reviews of automation and AI solutions.
  • Oversee risk assessments covering data privacy, model integrity, auditability, transparency, and lifecycle management.
  • Review new ideas, business cases and solution designs to ensure appropriate, sustainable, and compliant automation use.
  • Produce regular insight and assurance reporting for senior leaders and governance forums.

Capability Uplift & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support automation, analytics, and responsible AI capability across COTO through coaching, guidance, and knowledge sharing.
  • Provide expert advice to delivery teams, analysts, and operational leaders on governance requirements and design principles.
  • Foster a culture of safe experimentation, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Represent COTO in enterprise-level technology, data, and AI governance forums as required.

What You’ll Bring

Essential

  • 5+ yrs of strong experience in automation, analytics, or AI governance, ideally within a complex or regulated environment.
  • Proven ability to design and implement enterprise governance frameworks for technology solutions.
  • Solid understanding of ethical AI principles, bias mitigation, data protection, and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Experience working with automation technologies (e.g. RPA, low-code, workflow automation) and analytics platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to define and track value realisation and benefits from technology-led change.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage senior stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Experience in financial services, superannuation, or another regulated industry.
