Job Description:

Mobile Mechanical Engineer

Location: Mobile role covering Surrey, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire

Salary: £30ph

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and self-motivated Mobile Mechanical Engineer to join our facilities services team. You will travel between a portfolio of commercial and public buildings across Surrey, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on mechanical plant and building services. You will be the face of the company on site, so strong customer service and a professional approach are as important as technical ability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance on mechanical systems in line with contract schedules, manufacturer guidance and statutory requirements.
  • Respond to reactive callouts, diagnosing faults and completing repairs efficiently to minimise disruption to building users.
  • Maintain, service and repair heating systems, boilers, pumps, pressurisation units, calorifiers and associated controls.
  • Maintain, service and repair ventilation, air handling, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
  • Maintain and repair hot and cold water systems, including tanks, valves and pipework, and support water hygiene and Legionella control (temperature monitoring, flushing, sampling and record keeping).
  • Carry out minor pipework, plumbing and fabrication works as required.
  • Complete accurate job sheets, service reports and compliance records on time, using the company's job management system or handheld device.
  • Report defects, safety concerns and recommended remedial works to your supervisor and, where appropriate, provide quotations support.
  • Manage your own van stock, tools and equipment, and request materials as needed.
  • Liaise with clients, building managers, subcontractors and other trades in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Work in accordance with health and safety legislation, risk assessments, method statements and permit-to-work systems.
  • Take part in the out-of-hours on-call rota, where required.

Essential Requirements

  • Level 3 qualification in a relevant mechanical discipline, such as an NVQ / Diploma Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering Services, Heating and Ventilating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Plumbing and Heating, or an equivalent.
  • Proven experience maintaining mechanical building services in a commercial or public-sector environment.
  • Sound knowledge of heating, ventilation, hot and cold water and associated controls.
  • Good fault-finding skills and the ability to work independently without close supervision.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the Surrey, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire area.
  • Good communication and customer service skills, with a neat and professional appearance.
  • Basic IT skills for completing digital job records and reports.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Experience working on schools, hospitals, local authority, healthcare or other public-sector sites.
  • Working at height, confined space or manual handling training.

Skills and Attributes

  • Reliable, punctual and well organised, with the ability to manage a varied daily workload.
  • Calm and methodical when responding to urgent or emergency callouts.
  • Strong commitment to safe working practices and quality workmanship.
  • A team player who is also comfortable working alone.
  • Willing to learn and keep up to date with regulations and new technology.

Working Conditions

  • Based in the field, visiting multiple sites across the working area each day.
  • Work may involve plant rooms, roof spaces, confined areas and external locations, and may be physically demanding.
  • DBS check required for work on sites involving children or vulnerable adults.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and overtime rates
  • Company van, uniform, PPE, tools and mobile device
