Nationwide Building Society is a UK mutual financial institution headquartered in Swindon, England, providing mortgages, current accounts, savings, credit cards and business banking to its members. Owned by its members rather than shareholders, it is the largest building society in the world, operates a national branch network and acquired Virgin Money UK in 2024. Its openings span software, data and integration engineering, analytics, compliance, risk and audit roles, mortgage technical delivery, customer support and branch management, mainly in Swindon, London, Northampton and Glasgow.

This is a great opportunity for an individual who wants to develop their career in Mortgages. As a key team member within our Mortgage Policy & External Engagement team, you’ll play a role in ensuring we provide good outcomes for customers through maintaining and developing content within Haynes, our mortgage content management system for all colleagues in Mortgage Distribution and Operations.

This is a 12 month secondment opportunity.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll be located at our nearest regional office or hub. There will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration and in some locations you’ll be expected to spend at least two days a week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, in the office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.

Nationwide is committed to the redeployment of our employees impacted by change, as such applications for redeployment candidates will be prioritised in this recruitment process.

If you’re a colleague on long-term absence (for example, on parental leave) or a temporary worker, please use your personal email address to submit an application.

What you’ll be doing

As a Content Editor, you will be responsible for maintaining and developing content within Haynes, our mortgage content management system. Haynes provides colleagues across Mortgage Distribution and Mortgage Operations with the information, guidance and process steps they need to support customers and complete operational activities effectively.

Working as part of a team of Content Editors, you will support the management of content through its full lifecycle, ensuring smooth delivery, measurable benefits, and alignment with business, colleague and customer needs.

This includes reviewing change requests and managing competing priorities, engaging with subject matter experts and stakeholders, and making timely updates to content to ensure it remains accurate, clear and up to date.

You will collaborate with operational teams, policy specialists, and change teams amongst other stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate these into colleague-friendly guidance, process documentation, decision tools and supporting content.

You will play a key role in maintaining the quality, consistency and usability of content across the platform, ensuring colleagues can easily access the information they need to deliver good customer outcomes. You will ensure governance processes are followed and proactively look for ways to improve the content management system.

Alongside day-to-day content management activities, you will contribute to strategic change initiatives, including the planned re-platforming of Haynes to a new content management service in 2027. This will provide opportunities to contribute to future ways of working, improve content standards and support the development of a modern knowledge management capability.

About you

The minimum requirements for the role are:

  • Experience in mortgage servicing, operations or distribution

  • Experience using knowledge management tools (such as Haynes), with the ability to learn new systems
  • Confidently able to translate complex requirements into clear colleague guidance (both verbally and in writing)
  • Ability to manage multiple competing activities and deadlines
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills
  • Experience working with documented processes, procedures or guidance

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think - we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
