Job Expectations

Build your career and Australia’s future.

Not many people can say they are working on building Australia’s future. With us you’ll be doing just that, leaving a legacy for all Australians. Plus, there’s equal employment, great training, and true flexible working arrangements.

A fantastic opportunity has presented itself for a Business Change & Readiness Lead reporting to Executive Manager Engagement & Business Management

We’re looking for an experienced Business Change and Readiness Lead to help Field Services safely and successfully adopt new processes, systems, tools and ways of working. This is a hands-on role for someone who can turn complex change into clear, practical actions for a geographically dispersed blue-collar workforce, including technicians, field leaders, operational control teams and delivery partners.

You’ll work across programs and projects entering Field Services, leading initiative-level change planning, communications, stakeholder engagement and business readiness. You’ll ensure frontline teams understand what is changing, why it matters, what they need to do differently and where they can get support.

A bit about your role

As the Business Change and Readiness Lead, you will own the end-to-end change approach for assigned initiatives. You will assess impacts across people, process and technology; develop integrated change, engagement and readiness plans; coordinate delivery across project and operational teams; and provide clear evidence-based advice on whether the business is ready to implement change.

A key part of this role is communicating with frontline and blue-collar workforces. You will tailor messages and channels for remote, shift-based, depot-based and partner teams, including people who may have limited access to email or digital tools. You will create practical, plain-English materials such as field bulletins, leader packs, toolbox talks, shift briefings, FAQs, visual job aids and reinforcement messages.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Change impact and planning: Lead impact assessments across affected roles, locations, partners, processes, systems, tools, skills and behaviours, including safety, fatigue, dispatch, workflow, personal protective equipment, customer, productivity and industrial considerations.
  • Integrated change delivery: Develop and maintain change, stakeholder and delivery plans that clearly identify outcomes, activities, owners, milestones, dependencies, risks and success measures.
  • Frontline communications: Write clear, practical and accessible communications for technicians, field leaders, operational teams and partners, using channels and formats that suit how frontline teams work.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Build trusted relationships with project sponsors, change owners, operational leaders, frontline representatives, the Control Tower, Service Delivery Partners and specialist teams.
  • Business readiness: Coordinate readiness plans and checklists covering leadership, workforce, process, systems, training, communications, support, risk, contingency and deployment requirements.
  • Readiness assurance: Assess readiness against agreed gates and acceptance criteria, validate evidence, identify gaps and provide recommendations on whether change can be implemented safely and effectively.
  • Learning and support: Partner with training, knowledge and operational teams to confirm learning needs, access, scheduling and post-go-live support that are practical for field teams and minimise unnecessary time away from productive work.
  • Coaching and continuous improvement: Coach project and business teams, review change artefacts, provide constructive challenge and improve the consistency and quality of change delivery.
  • Performance and adoption: Track reach, understanding, confidence, training completion, readiness, adoption, compliance, safety, defects, rework, productivity and support demand.
  • Post-implementation review: Analyse feedback and operational data, lead reviews, coordinate reinforcement or corrective actions and capture lessons for future initiatives.

A bit about you

You are an experienced change and communications professional who is comfortable working close to operations. You understand that successful change for a blue-collar workforce requires more than an email: it requires practical engagement, visible leadership, clear actions, accessible channels and ongoing reinforcement.

You will bring:

  • At least five years’ experience in change management, business readiness, communications or operational transformation.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering communications and change for a frontline, operational or blue-collar workforce; experience supporting remote, shift-based, depot-based or partner workforces will be highly regarded.
  • Strong capability in change impact assessment, readiness planning, stakeholder engagement, plain-English writing, risk management and adoption measurement.
  • Experience translating complex project, technical or corporate information into simple, practical instructions and messages that frontline employees can understand and act on.
  • Confidence facilitating briefings, workshops, change forums, toolbox-style discussions and feedback sessions with leaders, employees and partners.
  • Strong judgement and the ability to balance project timelines with operational realities, safety requirements and workforce impacts.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, influence without direct authority and bring stakeholders together around clear actions and decisions.
  • Experience using data, feedback and operational insights to assess readiness, adoption and the effectiveness of change activity.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • A recognised change management or communications qualification is desirable.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications, field operations or operational control environments is desirable.

What success looks like

  • Field teams and leaders understand the change, required actions and available support.
  • Change and readiness activities are delivered to agreed milestones, with risks and dependencies actively managed.
  • Readiness evidence is complete, gaps are closed promptly and deployment decisions are well informed.
  • Communications are clear, accessible and suited to the day-to-day realities of a blue-collar workforce.
  • New ways of working are adopted safely, confidently and with minimal operational disruption.
  • Post-implementation insights lead to effective reinforcement and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, communications, human resources, organisational change or a related discipline, or an equivalent level of professional experience.
  • A recognised change management qualification, such as Prosci, Change Management Institute accreditation or an equivalent certification, is desirable.
  • A communications, project management, learning or facilitation qualification is desirable.
  • Relevant professional certifications or licences applicable to the role will be viewed favourably.

Application Process

You may find that your experience does not match every requirement listed but, if this role has piqued your interest or resonates with where you are in your career, we encourage you to apply rather than self-select out. We are interested in transferable skills and your skills and perspective could be exactly what we would value to strengthen our team.
