Build your career and Australia’s future.

Not many people can say they are working on building Australia’s future. With us you’ll be doing just that, leaving a legacy for all Australians. Plus, there’s equal employment, great training, and true flexible working arrangements.

We have an exciting opportunity at nbn for a General Manager, Safety and Environment. This role will provide strategic leadership across nbn's operational safety and environmental functions, supporting the safe delivery of critical infrastructure programs nationwide.

A bit about your role

As the General Manager, Safety and Environment, you will lead nbn's operational safety strategy and environmental oversight across complex, high-risk construction, field and operational activities undertaken by both nbn employees and delivery partners. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring critical risks are identified, understood and effectively managed throughout the planning, mobilisation and delivery of work, helping to create safer outcomes for our people, partners and communities.

Working closely with operational leaders across the business, you will drive the consistent application of critical risk controls, strengthen safety leadership capability and foster a culture where safety and environmental stewardship are embedded in everyday decision-making. You will oversee operational safety and environmental performance, critical incident investigations, contractor safety management, assurance activities and organisational learning, using insights and frontline engagement to continuously improve risk management and operational outcomes. As a trusted adviser to senior leaders, you will also represent nbn with regulators, industry bodies and external stakeholders on matters relating to operational safety and environmental performance.

A bit about you

You are an experienced and collaborative leader with a strong track record in operational safety, construction safety, environmental management or a related discipline within complex, highly regulated and high-risk environments. You have successfully led geographically dispersed teams and bring deep expertise in managing critical risks, contractor and supplier safety performance, assurance programs and large-scale operational activities.

You are known for your ability to build trusted relationships, influence at Executive level and bring people together around shared priorities. With a thoughtful and pragmatic approach, you can navigate complexity, identify systemic risks and translate insights into meaningful actions that improve safety and environmental outcomes. Your strong communication skills, sound judgement and commitment to continuous improvement enable you to create positive impact, inspire high-performing teams and help ensure nbn continues to deliver safely, responsibly and with purpose.
