Senior Database Administrator

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain database systems, including design, implementation, and ongoing optimization.
• Ensure the performance, security, and availability of our database systems, including planning and executing backups and disaster recovery plans.
• Design and implement database security measures to protect sensitive data, including access controls, encryption, and data masking.
• Collaborate with developers and other IT staff to best design database systems as well as troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, such as performance problems or data inconsistencies.
• Develop and maintain documentation of database systems, including system architecture, configuration, and operational procedures.
• Perform regular database maintenance tasks, such as database optimization, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
• Plan and execute database upgrades and migrations, ensuring minimal downtime and data loss.
• Monitor database system health and proactively identify and address issues before they impact production systems.
• Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24x7 support for critical database systems.
• Responsible for assisting and performing database code review of other developers.
• Responsible for following Neighborly SDLC processes.
• Responsible for mentoring and guiding other database staff in best practices and techniques.
• Fosters an environment of communication and problem-solving, leveraging the Neighborly Code of Values.
• Assists the team in researching solutions and recommends solutions to meet business requirements.
• Maintains confidentiality of personal information.
• Interface with others in a professional manner and be a trusted go-to person.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

• At least 4 years of experience in database administration, with a focus on SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
• Strong experience with database design, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
• Strong understanding of database security concepts and experience implementing security measures.
• Experience with database backup and recovery procedures, including disaster recovery planning.
• Familiarity with database migration and upgrade procedures.
• The candidate must be customer-focused and goal-oriented and have a passion for success.
• Experience and proven ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) effectively with business and IT stakeholders and senior leadership.
• Able to lead other database staff regarding best practices and techniques.
• Able to clearly document complex database systems and structures, including architectures, relationships, and configurations.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented.
• Self-starter. Ability to work autonomously with little support.
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.

• Education: Any full-time degree or equivalent experience.
• Experience: 4+ years of experience in database administration.
