Role Details:
Role: Director of Software Engineering, India (App Dev Practice)
Reporting to: SVP, Cloud and Software Engineering
Number of positions: 1
Location and Work Mode:
Work location: Bangalore (Bangalore-based candidates only)
Office location: ClayWorks, Commissariat Road, Ashok Nagar
Work mode: Hybrid, 2 to 3 days from office
Working hours: UK hours (1.30 PM to 9.30 PM IST or 2.30 PM to 10.30 PM IST)
Notice Period:
Preferably up to 60 days. Sooner the better.
What This Person Will Do:
- Lead the India App Dev practice
- Stay hands-on, at least on architecture
- Bring strong software engineering depth
- Influence P&L indirectly
Must-Haves:
- GCP experience (mandatory)
- Backend language: Java, Python or Node.js (C#/.NET also considered)
- Solutioning and architecture skills
- Manager of managers with global delivery experience
- Background in IT services organisations only
Role Overview:
As the Director of Software Engineering, India, you will lead the India practice alongside the US Software Engineering Lead. You will oversee the design, build and modernisation of applications on Google Cloud Platform. You will work closely with client teams and US leadership to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes across both regions.
What You Need:
- 8+ years in software engineering, with deep exposure to building enterprise-grade applications in cloud environments
- 5+ years leading engineering teams, with a track record in global, cross-border delivery set-ups
- Strong grounding in software architecture, including cloud-native design principles and modern engineering practices
- Practical command of core GCP services: App Engine, Compute Engine, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage and Kubernetes
- Hands-on skills in Java, Python or Node.js, with familiarity in frameworks such as Spring Boot or Django
- Strong communication skills across technical and business audiences
- Google Cloud certification (Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Cloud Developer) is a plus
- Candidates from IT services organisations only
What Would You Do Here:
- Delivery Execution: Own delivery, quality benchmarks and project timelines across the India engineering teams
- Workforce and Utilisation: Plan and manage headcount, capacity, bench allocation and team utilisation
- Capability Development: Shape the technical capability roadmap, including upskilling and Google Cloud certification pathways
- Operational Excellence: Set coding standards and quality frameworks, and drive continuous improvement in the engineering process
- Local Talent and People Leadership: Own local hiring, performance reviews, career development and retention
- Global Delivery and Client Outcomes: Work with global counterparts to keep delivery standards consistent, support client outcomes and manage escalations
