Equipment Operator / Foreman

Network Connex is seeking an experienced Equipment Operator / Foreman to support underground utility and fiber optic construction operations. This position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating trenchers, excavators, backhoes, and other heavy equipment used to install underground fiber optic cable, conduit, and telecommunications infrastructure.
The ideal candidate has experience working around underground utilities and understands the importance of utility locating, safe excavation, trenching, jobsite safety, and precision equipment operation.
Responsibilities:
- Operate excavators, backhoes, and other construction equipment for underground utility installation.
- Perform trenching and excavation for fiber optic cable, conduit, and other underground utilities.
- Complete daily pre-operational equipment inspections and identify maintenance or safety concerns.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance and keep equipment clean and properly maintained.
- Read and understand utility locates, site plans, construction drawings, and project specifications.
- Safely expose existing utilities and maintain required clearances to prevent utility strikes.
- Verify trench depth, width, alignment, and grade meet project specifications.
- Assist with potholing, hand digging, and other excavation activities when required.
- Safely work around existing underground utilities and other construction operations.
- Follow project-specific traffic control and work-zone requirements.
- Maintain accurate daily records of work performed, equipment usage, and production.
- Communicate effectively with Foremen, Construction Managers, crew members, inspectors, and other personnel.
- Assist with general labor and other crew-support activities as needed.
- Restore and clean up jobsites upon completion of work.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating trenching, excavation, or similar heavy equipment.
- Experience in utility, underground construction, telecommunications, fiber optic, or related construction preferred.
- Knowledge of underground utility construction practices.
- Ability to read and understand utility locates, construction drawings, and site plans.
