Accountant

This role offers exposure to general ledger management, cash flow, reconciliations, budgeting and statutory compliance. You'll work closely with the Financial Manager and other departments to ensure accurate reporting and efficient financial processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly financial reports, trial balances, balance sheets and income statements
• Process and post daily financial transactions, journals and accounting entries
• Perform bank, general ledger, balance sheet and intercompany reconciliations
• Reconcile general ledger balances to debtor and creditor ledgers, loan balances and company accounts
• Monitor cash flow and facilitate authorised bank payments
• Ensure supplier invoices are authorised and accurately captured
• Conduct budget-versus-actual variance analysis and provide commentary on significant differences
• Prepare supporting schedules and notes for monthly financial reports
• Assist with VAT submissions and municipal returns
• Maintain accurate accounting records, supporting documentation and system backups
• Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and errors
• Participate in annual external audits and ensure audit documentation is readily available
• Liaise with internal departments and property stakeholders to obtain financial information and resolve queries
• Report on account reconciliations and financial matters to management

Job Experience and Skills Required

• BCom in Accounting or a similar qualification

• One to two years' accounting experience
• Property accounting experience preferred
• Retail property experience highly advantageous
• Exposure to reconciliations, financial reporting and general ledger processes

• Good Microsoft Excel skills
• Understanding of basic accounting principles and procedures
• Strong numerical and analytical ability
• Computer literacy and experience using accounting systems
