About Opportunity
A leading telecommunications and broadband services provider is seeking an experienced Senior / Principal Software Engineer – Data Platform to take ownership of a mission-critical data ecosystem that supports customer billing, network operations, field services, and business reporting.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a highly skilled engineer who combines deep technical expertise with strong architecture, governance, and mentoring capabilities. You will lead the design, reliability, security, and evolution of a cloud-based data platform while coaching developers and collaborating with operational stakeholders across the business.
The Role
As the owner of the company's data platform, you will be responsible for the data warehouse, integration and load processes, cloud infrastructure, and API services that underpin business operations.
You will ensure data remains accurate, secure, highly available, and actionable while driving engineering best practices and technical excellence across multiple systems. Duties & Responsibilities Key Responsibilities
Web Application Development

• Design, develop, and maintain internal business applications and operational portals.
• Build responsive interfaces, dashboards, KPI reporting tools, maps, charts, and data visualisations.
• Deliver consistent, intuitive user experiences across multiple applications.
• Translate business requirements into practical technology solutions.

API & Data Integration

• Integrate applications with shared APIs and backend services.
• Ensure data displayed within applications accurately reflects underlying business systems.
• Validate and troubleshoot data using SQL and database queries.
• Collaborate with data and platform teams to support seamless integration.

User Experience & Performance

• Develop applications that perform effectively across varying network conditions.
• Optimise user journeys and application responsiveness.
• Work directly with stakeholders to understand operational needs and improve usability.
• Communicate technical changes clearly to non-technical users.

Quality Assurance & Release Management

• Participate in code reviews and maintain high development standards.
• Develop automated tests for application functionality and user interactions.
• Support structured release processes through development, testing, and production environments.
• Monitor performance and resolve issues through established support processes.

Security & Compliance

• Implement secure authentication and access controls.
• Ensure compliance with privacy and data protection requirements.
• Follow secure development practices and protect sensitive information.
• Manage application access and configuration securely.

Collaboration & Mentorship

• Work closely with technical and business teams to deliver solutions.
• Share knowledge and support less experienced developers where required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and development standards.
• Participate in solution design and technical planning activities.

Minimum Requirements
Qualifications

• Matric (Grade 12).
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Relevant cloud or web development certifications will be advantageous.

Technical Skills
Strong experience with:

• TypeScript
• JavaScript
• HTML5 & CSS3

Experience with:

• RESTful APIs
• Git and GitHub
• Automated testing frameworks
• CI/CD practices
• Cloud-hosted environments

Experience Required

• Minimum 5 years' professional software development experience.
• Proven full-stack development experience.
• Experience building and supporting production web applications used by employees or customers.
• Experience working with modern JavaScript frameworks and cloud-based solutions.
• Experience mentoring junior developers would be advantageous.
• Exposure to operational systems, telecommunications, utilities, GIS/mapping solutions, or enterprise portals would be beneficial.
