Position Summary:

The Office of Accessibility Resources and Services (OARS) Accommodation Coordinator is responsible for coordinating academic testing accommodations and supporting accessibility services to ensure equitable access for students with disabilities at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). This position manages the day-to-day administration of accommodated testing, collaborates with students, faculty, and academic departments to facilitate timely exam coordination, and helps maintain the integrity, confidentiality, and efficiency of testing operations.

Reporting to the Director of OARS, the Accommodation Coordinator serves as a primary resource for students navigating testing accommodations, provides administrative and operational support for the office, and assists with the coordination of assistive technology and alternative formats. The position also supports student employee supervision, departmental communications, and outreach initiatives, including training, awareness programming, and marketing efforts that promote accessibility and inclusion across the university.

The successful candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and student-centered, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while exercising sound judgment and maintaining compliance with federal and institutional accessibility regulations.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate exam accommodations for eligible students, including extended time, reduced distraction testing, and alternate testing arrangements.

  • Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to obtain and manage exams and testing materials in a timely manner.

  • Proctor exams as needed while maintaining testing integrity and confidentiality.

  • Assist students in navigating testing procedures and direct students to appropriate testing locations.

  • Coordinate communication between students, faculty, and OARS regarding testing accommodations.

  • Maintain testing schedules and support efficient testing operations.

  • Manage department email correspondence, phone inquiries, and clerical responsibilities related to testing coordination.

  • Assist the Director with oversight of student workers including training, scheduling and communications.

  • Assist with the coordination of assistive technology and alternative formats.

  • Support the educational and programmatic initiatives within OARS including developing and implementing training, awareness events, and marketing and social media materials.

Pre-Requisite Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Higher Education, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

  • Experience working in higher education, student services, disability services, testing coordination, or a related area preferred.

  • Knowledge of Section 504, Section 508, ADA, ADA Amendments Act, FERPA, and other applicable laws related to accessibility and higher education.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment when addressing student concerns and accommodation-related matters.

  • Ability to manage multiple testing schedules and priorities within a high-volume student services environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations, faculty, and staff.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, databases, and student information systems.

  • Experience with accessibility management systems such as Accommodate, Canvas or related platforms preferred.

At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

$63,117.60 - $88,823.64

NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items.
