Assistant Manager, Retail (Commercial & Sales)

Job Summary :

• Assistant Manager, Retail is responsible for driving the commercial growth and profitability of the company’s retail logistics network. The role oversees retail revenue performance, customer acquisition, network expansion, strategic partnerships, and commercial initiatives across physical retail outlets. This position works closely with Operations, Sales, Marketing, Product, and Finance teams to optimize store productivity, improve customer experience, and develop new revenue opportunities.

• The role also leads commercial planning and performance management by establishing sales targets, KPIs, incentive structures, and growth strategies for the retail network. The Commercial Manager identifies new business opportunities, develops partnerships with merchants and SMEs, expands non-marketplace parcel volume, and ensures each retail location delivers sustainable revenue and volume growth.

Job Responsibility:

Commercial Strategy

• Develop and execute the retail commercial strategy aligned with company growth objectives.

• Identify new revenue streams and business opportunities within the retail logistics network.

• Develop commercial plans covering parcel volume, revenue, ASP, customer acquisition and profitability.

• Monitor market trends, competitor activities and customer behaviour.

Retail Network Growth

• Drive growth across self-owned stores, franchise/reseller outlets and strategic retail partners.

• Identify high-potential locations and opportunities for network expansion.

• Improve productivity and commercial performance of existing stores.

• Develop strategies for underperforming outlets.

Sales & Business Development

• Lead acquisition of SMEs, retail merchants, e-commerce sellers and corporate customers.

• Develop non-marketplace parcel volume through direct sales and partnerships.

• Build strategic partnerships with retailers, business centres, e-commerce enablers and other complementary businesses.

• Develop sales channels, reseller models and outsourcing opportunities

Commercial Operations

• Work with Operations to ensure commercial initiatives can be executed effectively at store level.

• Optimise manpower utilisation and sales productivity.

• Develop sales processes, incentive schemes and performance frameworks.

• Establish standardised commercial operating procedures across the retail network.

Commercial Analytics

• Build and maintain commercial dashboards and performance reports.

• Use data to identify growth opportunities and underperforming stores.

• Conduct ROI and profitability analysis for new commercial initiatives.

• Provide management with recommendations based on commercial data.

Stakeholder management & Cross-functional Coordination

• Act as key liaison between internal teams (Finance, Ops, Legal, Procurement)

• Manage escalations and ensure timely issue resolution

• Align stakeholders on operational priorities and changes

Job Requirement:

• Minimum qualifications: Diploma, with relevant industry experience
• Work experience: More than 2 years of experience working in retail stores
• Professional fluency in English & Bahasa Malaysia; Mandarin is an added advantage
• Proven success in being a team leader of a fully functional team
• Hands-on work experience with a proven track record in reaching and exceeding goals
• Strategic thinker with ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; solve complex problems, and develop creative solutions
• Effective verbal communication, with the ability to serve a wide range of customers
• Own transportation required
