Nokia is a Finnish telecommunications equipment company founded in 1865 as a paper mill, which became the world's largest mobile phone maker in the 1990s before selling that business to Microsoft in 2014. It now supplies network infrastructure to operators and enterprises, covering radio access equipment for mobile networks, optical and IP routing for transport networks, fixed broadband access, and a technologies division that licenses its cellular patent portfolio. Headquartered in Espoo and listed in Helsinki and New York, it runs Nokia Bell Labs as its research arm and has been expanding into data centre networking as operator spending has slowed.

As a Technical Sales Engineer at Nokia, you will be an essential part of our Zayo Sales Team, acting as the technical expert who collaborates closely with Account Managers and partners to deliver innovative optical solutions tailored to customer needs. Your role focuses on driving the technical sales process, engaging in technical presentations along with delivering customer designs and proposals. You will thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and continuous learning. Together with a diverse team, you’ll represent cutting-edge telecommunications technology, influencing the landscape of optical transmission systems. Expect a vibrant workplace where your technical acumen directly impacts customer satisfaction and long-term relationships, all while participating in exciting initiatives such as trade shows and industry events.

Lead the technical sales process as a vital resource, working alongside the Account Team to deliver customized optical solutions.

  • Develop and present engaging technical demonstrations of Nokia's optical product portfolio to clients.
  • Analyze customer requirements to create tailored solutions focused on reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Prepare accurate network designs and quotations, ensuring seamless client onboarding and after-sales support.
  • Participate in industry events and trade shows to promote Nokia's innovations and strengthen market presence.
  • Quickly respond to RFI/RFP requests, addressing both functional and technical needs efficiently.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients and internal teams, ensuring alignment and satisfaction throughout the sales cycle.
  • Mentor and train sales team members on technical concepts and sales strategies, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

You should have:

  • 10+ years of experience in customer-facing Sales Engineering or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of fiber optic transport technologies (DWDM, ROADM, FOADM, Optical Amplification, etc.).
  • Experience with Transport system design and operational requirements (Space, Power, Cooling, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Network Design Tools (WaveSuite Planner, Transport Network Planner, etc)
  • Proficiency in Network Management Systems (Nokia WaveSuite, Transcend NMS, etc.).

It would be nice if you also had:

  • Experience working with value added resellers (VARs).
  • Background in Network Analysis, Optimization, and Cost Modeling.
  • Exceptional presentation and public speaking skills tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Working experience with Automation tools such as CoPilot, ChatGPT, Claude, others.
