Position Description:

Under the guidance of a Cancer Control Specialist II, this position will assist with implementation of cancer control initiatives of the Kentucky Cancer Program (KCP) in Metro Louisville and the Lincoln Trail District. Activities include cancer prevention and early detection programs; patient and family support services; information for health care providers; and partnerships to address local problems. This individual will also coordinate outreach initiatives for at-risk groups, particularly African Americans, in Metro Louisville.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist with KCP educational/outreach programs. Participate in cancer control partnerships and engage stakeholders including health care providers, the media, businesses, social groups, faith-based communities, and agencies in screening campaigns; work with partners to provide linkages to patient and family support programs.

  • Assist with developing and implementing outreach programs focused on cancer prevention, screening, and patient support for the at-risk African American population in Metro Louisville through community engagement.

  • Staff the Kentucky African Americans Against Cancer coalition; coordinate monthly meetings and special programs; recruit and train coalition volunteers; coordinate communications/programming with Gilda’s Club West Louisville.

  • Work with KCP colleagues to support the mobile mammography van and recruit patients for screening, particularly at-risk African Americans.

  • Represent KCP at community events, health fairs, worksites, and other locations; compile educational materials for dissemination; and display educational exhibits.

  • Work with KCP colleagues to design and create educational and promotional materials, both print and electronic; work with the KCP team to post information on social media.

  • Enter program data in the statewide KCP reporting database for services delivered; maintain database of mailing lists of community members, coalition members, cancer survivors, and partners.

  • Participate in statewide KCP meetings with colleagues at UofL to assist with KCP program plans for cancer control initiatives and contract deliverables.

  • Identify and enter new resources and monitor existing community resources for Metro Louisville for the online KCP Pathfinder.

  • Prepare and submit reports as requested.

  • Assist KCP colleagues as requested on special projects as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Kentucky Cancer Program.

  • Introductory understanding of cancer control.

  • Familiar with health systems, businesses, non-profit groups, and others in local communities.

  • Understands the public health needs in Western Kentucky.

  • Expertise insocial media, graphic design, and PowerPoint presentations.

Target Compensation Maximum:

$72,389.00

Target Compensation Minimum:

$48,225.00

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
