Information Technology Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

The IT Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation, security, and continued maturity of North Vector Dynamics' internal information technology environment. This is a hands-on role: NVD currently manages its own IT in-house without a managed service provider, so the successful candidate will both set direction and do the work themselves. The role carries particular weight given NVD's status as a defence technology company operating under the Controlled Goods Program (CGP), the Document Security Control (DSC) program, and the Contract Security Program (CSP); IT decisions in this environment directly affect the company's ability to safeguard controlled goods, controlled technical data, and client information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Infrastructure and Endpoint Management

• Own and maintain NVD's internal network, servers, endpoints, and cloud services.
• Establish and enforce a standardized device image and configuration baseline across company phones, laptops, and workstations, closing the current gap in automated patching and update management.
• Manage user account provisioning and deprovisioning, access permissions, and device inventory.
• Evaluate and recommend hardware, software, and infrastructure purchases in line with operational and budget needs.

Cybersecurity and Regulatory Compliance

• Act as the internal lead for NVD's Canadian Program for Cyber Security Certification (CPCSC) compliance work, coordinating with external consultants through Level 1 self-attestation and preparing the organization for an eventual Level 2 assessment.
• Implement and maintain technical controls required to protect controlled goods and controlled technical data consistent with NVD's CGP and DSC obligations.
• Maintain patch management, endpoint protection, backup, and disaster recovery processes, and remediate gaps identified through compliance reviews or audits.
• Support due diligence and compliance review of third-party software and platform vendors (for example, evaluating data sovereignty, export control, and information security posture of proposed tools) before they are adopted.
• Maintain documentation required to demonstrate compliance to auditors, customers, and government authorities.

Systems and Vendor Management

• Manage relationships with IT vendors, telecom providers, and software licensors, including contract renewals and cost review.
• Administer core business systems (email, file storage, CRM, website hosting and security, collaboration tools, and any engineering or telemetry platforms, private github, and any other IT tools required in the future) and manage integrations between them and develop SOPs, training and tutorials in support of new or existing tools.
• Support development and provide maintenance of on-premises AI server.
• Recommend and implement improvements to IT systems as the company scales.

IT Support and Operations

• Provide day-to-day technical support to staff across departments, resolving hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
• Maintain an asset register of company IT equipment, including issue and return of devices.
• Develop and maintain IT policies and procedures, including acceptable use, data handling, and incident response.

Reporting and Governance

• Report regularly to the Director of Operations on IT operations, security posture, outstanding risks, and compliance status.
• Escalate security incidents promptly and lead the internal response in coordination with company leadership.
• Support internal and external audits with accurate, timely documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience managing IT infrastructure, ideally including sole or lead responsibility for an organization's IT environment.
• Working knowledge of endpoint management, patch management, and standard network and cloud administration practices.
• Canadian citizenship or permanent residency, and the ability to meet the screening requirements of NVD's CGP registration and obtain a CSP security clearance.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical risk into terms leadership can act on.

Preferred

• Prior experience supporting cybersecurity certification frameworks such as CPCSC, CMMC, NIST 800-171, or ISO 27001.
• Experience working in a defence, aerospace, or other regulated/controlled-goods environment.
• Familiarity with export control considerations (for example, ITAR or Canadian export control regimes) as they relate to IT systems and data handling.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is based on-site at NVD's Calgary premises. Occasional after-hours availability may be required to respond to security incidents or system outages. The role involves handling controlled and sensitive information and is subject to NVD's internal security policies at all times.
