Northrop Grumman is seeking an experienced Ground Support Equipment Mechanic to support multiple maintenance programs with Northrop Grumman in Lake Charles, LA.

You will work Ground Support Equipment across the Lake Charles site. You will support multiple programs, based on the needs of the site.

**You may have to rotate shifts to support the tasks across the programs, to include days, nights, and weekends, as well as overtime in order to complete the mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair on a broad range of ground support equipment, such as:

    • Aircraft jacks, tow tractors, tugs, and dollies

    • Hydraulic power units, air start units, air-conditioning and electrical power carts,

    • Fueling equipment, lifts, cranes, and specialized GSE fixtures and tools

    • Inspection and proof load of slings and jacks.

  • Perform welding and carpentry tasks.

  • Interpret complex technical data, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and maintenance manuals to plan and execute work.

  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring equipment failures and reliability issues.

  • Execute and oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs; recommend updates to PM intervals and procedures based on field experience and data.

  • Perform and document inspections to verify compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, and safety to plan and implement equipment modifications, upgrades, and new installations.

  • Serve as technical lead for:

    • Work assignment planning, prioritization, and coordination with other shops

    • On-the-job training, mentoring, and guidance for junior mechanics and technicians

    • Introduction and enforcement of best practices in maintenance, tooling, and documentation

  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company procedures, maintenance instructions, and applicable regulations.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts usage, and equipment status in the designated maintenance management system.

  • Support readiness and availability metrics by proactively identifying and resolving equipment issues before they impact operations.

  • Promote and uphold a strong safety culture, including hazard identification, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement of work practices.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • A minimum of 8 yrs of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing ground support equipment, heavy equipment, industrial machinery, or similar mechanical/electromechanical systems.

  • Demonstrated mastery of:

    • Hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems

    • Electrical systems, including AC/DC circuits, controls, and troubleshooting with test equipment

    • Reading and applying technical manuals, schematics, and engineering drawings

  • Proven ability to independently diagnose complex equipment problems and implement effective repairs.

  • Experience working in a production, flight line, or maintenance environment with stringent safety and quality requirements.

  • Welding and carpentry experience.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate across teams.

  • Proficiency with standard hand tools, power tools, test equipment (multimeters, hydraulic pressure gauges, etc.), and lifting devices.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required certifications, clearances, and licenses for the role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience specifically with aerospace ground support equipment (flight line GSE, hangar/support equipment, or launch support equipment).

  • Technical/vocational training in mechanics, electronics, or related field.

  • Formal apprenticeship or military experience in GSE, aviation maintenance, or heavy equipment maintenance.

  • Experience leading or supervising maintenance teams or serving as a lead mechanic.

  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and maintenance planning.

  • Certifications in relevant areas (e.g., heavy equipment maintenance, industrial electrical, welding/fabrication, hydraulics).

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work in a hangar, flight line, shop, and outdoor environments, including exposure to weather, noise, and operational equipment.

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull, and to climb, bend, kneel, and work in awkward positions.

  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including overtime, shift work, and weekends as operational needs require.

Primary Level Salary Range: $52,700.00 - $87,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
