POSITION SUMMARY:The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Appurtenance team designs ASME BPVC Section III components, appurtenances,and other mechanicaland/or electricalinterfacecomponents critical to the NuScale Power Module (NPM). Reporting to the Manager, NSSS Appurtenance Design, the Mechanical Engineer 2prepares, checks, and reviews reports, specifications, drawings, calculations, Scopes of Work, and other design and ASME Code related deliverables. The role partners closely with multi-discipline teams to resolve complex design challenges, proposes innovative solutions using independent judgment, and plans and executes work aligned to project scope. The engineer supports proof-of-concept and qualification testing and collaborates with Licensing on domestic and international regulatory efforts to develop and maintain licensing scope.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the development and review of drawings, specifications, reports, calculations, and scopes of work necessary to design NSSS mechanical components including, but not limited to, valves, control rod drive mechanisms, pressurizer heaters, electrical penetration assemblies, instrument penetration assemblies, and Passive Autocatalytic Recombiner (PAR).
  • Perform and check engineering evaluations in accordance with NuScale company procedures, by applying sound engineering judgement.
  • Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order tofunction on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Support development and implementation of effective processes for componentdesign specifications.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Quality Assurance:Demonstrated understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1 is preferred

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical) or Mechanical Engineering Technology, from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required. A registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is desired.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of nuclear/non-nuclear experience in mechanical engineering or related industry experience is required. Additional experience in the following areas include:
    • Thorough working knowledge and experience in various areas of engineering is required
    • Development of technical programs related to design, examination and testing is required
    • Strong technical writing skills as well as good communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills and ability to clearly communicate.
    • Good organization skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases is required.
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Pay and Benefits:

The target pay range for this position is $87,107 - $105,129 annually.The full pay range is $78,096 - $122,149 annually.
