NXP Semiconductors is a Dutch chipmaker established in 2006 when Philips spun out its semiconductor division, and it concentrates on embedded processing rather than general purpose computing. Its largest market is automotive, where it supplies radar sensors, vehicle networking, battery management and the secure processors behind keyless entry and digital car keys, alongside industrial and internet of things microcontrollers, mobile secure elements and communications infrastructure silicon. Headquartered in Eindhoven and listed on Nasdaq, it is one of the leading suppliers of near field communication and automotive processing chips in the world.

Contexte

Context

The “Digital HW/SoC (System on Chip)” department of the “Secure Connected Edge” product unit, located in Caen, is looking for a final-year engineering intern for a 6-month period in order to develop a performance analysis tool for hardware simulations of our digital components.

This internship takes place within the Digital Design and Integration team, which provides solutions and components for the Mobile Phone, secure payment, digital identification, connected objects and NFC infrastructure markets.

This team is responsible for delivering qualified solutions to major players in Mobile Phone and Mobile Transactions. On-time delivery and the quality of the designed blocks are key pillars of our design activities. The Design team is involved in all Hardware (HW) development steps of a component: from specification phases to tape-out, validation, production ramp-up and customer support.

As part of the verification of our components, hardware simulations generate a large amount of information that can be used to analyze system behavior.

The objective of this internship is to develop an internal tool able to extract and measure performance indicators from these simulations, in order to ease the analysis of test scenarios and help identify potential optimization points.

We are looking for a final-year intern for a 6-month period to develop a performance analysis tool applied to hardware simulations of digital components.

Your responsibilities

The trainee will be responsible for / perform one or more of the following tasks:

  • Understanding the existing hardware simulation environment.

  • Identifying relevant performance metrics to extract from simulations: latency, bandwidth, waiting time, interface activity or significant events.

  • Defining a data collection and processing format for simulation results.

  • Developing a tool to automatically analyze the performance of a simulated system.

  • Generating reports or synthetic views to compare several simulation scenarios.

  • Integrating the tool into the existing verification environment.

  • Validating the solution on representative use cases.

Your profile

Education level: Master Degree / last year of engineering school in Integrated Circuits, Integrated Electronics Systems, Electronics, Micro-Electronics, IoT Design, Embedded Systems, Electronic Systems or Industrial Software Engineering.

Knowledge required in:

  • Digital design and verification flow.

  • VHDL / Verilog or SystemVerilog.

  • Software development, ideally Python.

  • Linux environment and scripting, for example Bash or Tcl.

  • Knowledge of UVM, simulation trace analysis or system performance would be a plus.

A good level of English is required, as the internship will take place in an international multi-site environment.
