Every week, around eight million people use TV4 Play and MTV Katsomo. Behind product decisions, content recommendations, subscriptions, advertising and viewer experiences is data.

We’re looking for a Sr. Data Engineer to help evolve our data platform and raise the bar for how we build, operate and improve data solutions across the organisation.

This role goes beyond building pipelines and data models. We’re looking for an experienced engineer who takes a broader view of the systems around them: architecture, quality, observability, developer experience and how things actually behave in production.

This is an office-first role based in Stockholm, and we work from the office four days a week.

To be considered, you need to already have the right to work and reside in Sweden and be able to work office-first from Stockholm. We are not able to offer relocation or visa sponsorship for this role.

Data is fundamental to how TV4 and MTV develop products, understand viewer behaviour and make business decisions.

Our Data team builds the platform and capabilities used by analysts, data scientists, product teams and the wider business. We’re now modernising that platform while making data easier to access, trust and use across the organisation.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll help shape that journey technically. You’ll build new capabilities, improve existing systems and help establish engineering practices that allow the team to move faster without compromising quality or reliability.

What you’ll do

• Design, build and evolve data pipelines, data models and components of our data platform.

• Take technical ownership from problem definition and design through production, operations and continuous improvement.

• Influence architecture and technical decisions as we modernise the platform.

• Build for data quality, testability, observability, security and reliability from the start.

• Identify technical debt, bottlenecks and structural problems and drive improvements even when there isn’t a predefined task waiting for you.

• Work closely with analysts, data scientists, product teams and the business to understand which problems are actually worth solving.

• Improve developer experience through automation, standardisation and shared engineering practices.

• Help raise the technical level of the team through knowledge sharing, technical discussions and feedback.

• Explore how AI and agentic development can improve how we build and operate data systems.

About you

You’re an experienced engineer whose main domain is data, but you think beyond individual pipelines or tools.

You’re comfortable taking an ambiguous technical problem, breaking it down and driving it towards a solution. You understand that production engineering includes testing, deployment, observability, failure modes and maintainability, not just implementation.

You don’t need to be the person with all the answers, but you should be comfortable forming an opinion, explaining your reasoning and changing direction when better information appears.

We expect you to have strong experience with:

• SQL and Python

• Data modelling

• Data pipelines and ETL/ELT

• Modern cloud-based data platforms

• Production-quality software engineering

• Testing, data quality and observability

• Cloud environments, preferably AWS

• CI/CD and modern development practices

We’re also interested in engineers coming from adjacent backend or platform backgrounds who have moved deeply into data engineering. Strong engineering fundamentals matter more to us than matching every tool we use.

The platform is evolving, so we’re more interested in your ability to reason about systems and learn than in exact tool matching.

The team

You’ll join a Nordic Data team working across Stockholm and Helsinki.

The team owns the data platform and capabilities supporting analytics, reporting, product development and business insight across TV4 and MTV.

We work closely with the rest of the product organisation and with analysts, data scientists and business stakeholders. Our ambition is to make trustworthy data easier to access and use while reducing unnecessary complexity for the teams depending on it.

This is also a team in transformation. You’ll have real opportunity to influence the platform, engineering practices and how the team works together.
