Job Summary

The Director of Wafer Fab Operations is responsible for the overall performance of the Furnace, Thin Films, Epi, CMP, and Implant modules within the wafer fabrication facility. This role provides end-to-end ownership and accountability for safety, quality, output, yield, cycle time, equipment performance, workforce capability, and cost across these manufacturing areas. The Director is responsible for achieving business objectives through strong operational leadership, disciplined execution, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration. The role partners closely with stakeholders across the site to ensure stable operations, successful technology transfers, organizational capability development, and long-term business success.

This position is based in East Fishkill, NY and requires full-time on-site presence.

Key Responsibilities

Core Module Ownership

  • Own the overall performance and business results of the Furnace, Thin Films, Epi, CMP, and Implant modules.
  • Deliver results across safety, quality, output, yield, cycle time, equipment performance, workforce capability, and cost.
  • Establish priorities, remove barriers, and align resources to meet factory and business objectives.
  • Drive accountability and execution through disciplined daily management, operating reviews, and action-oriented problem solving.
  • Lead rapid recovery efforts for operational disruptions, quality excursions, equipment issues, staffing challenges, and delivery risks.
  • Develop and execute plans to improve output, reduce cycle time, increase equipment performance, improve yield, and lower manufacturing costs.
  • Ensure the organization remains focused on achieving customer commitments while continuously improving operational performance.

Leadership and Organizational Development

  • Lead and develop a large organization of managers, engineers, maintenance personnel, technicians, and operators.
  • Build organizational capability through effective hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, succession planning, and talent development.
  • Create a culture of accountability, teamwork, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure strong leadership engagement and consistent execution across all shifts.
  • Develop future leaders and build the organizational depth necessary to support long-term business needs.

Operational Excellence

  • Drive improvements in yield, cycle time, equipment availability, productivity, and cost performance.
  • Establish disciplined operating systems that enable predictable execution and sustainable results.
  • Leverage data-driven decision making to identify opportunities, prioritize resources, and improve performance.
  • Drive reductions in scrap, rework, waiting time, variability, and other sources of operational inefficiency.
  • Ensure effective workflow management, dispatching, batching strategies, and resource utilization.
  • Lead structured problem solving and root cause investigations for significant operational and quality issues.
  • Develop systems and processes that improve factory performance while sustaining gains over time.

Technology and Business Partnership

  • Partner with process development, product engineering, planning, quality, supply chain, facilities, and other organizations to achieve business objectives.
  • Support technology transfers, new product introductions, and production ramps while maintaining operational performance.
  • Ensure manufacturing readiness for new technologies and future business opportunities.
  • Collaborate across the site to remove barriers, address risks, and improve operational execution.

Quality, Safety, and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with company quality standards, customer requirements, environmental regulations, and EHS expectations.
  • Champion a proactive safety culture focused on risk identification, mitigation, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead corrective and preventive actions to address recurring operational and quality issues.
  • Maintain a high level of operational discipline and compliance across all assigned areas.

5S, Cleanliness, and Audit Readiness

  • Implement and sustain 5S principles throughout assigned manufacturing areas.
  • Ensure adherence to cleanliness and contamination control standards critical to semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Maintain a constant state of audit readiness and operational discipline.
  • Drive ownership and accountability for workplace organization and visual management systems.

Strategic Planning

  • Develop long-range plans for capacity, workforce capability, equipment strategy, and organizational development.
  • Identify and execute opportunities for productivity improvement and cost reduction.
  • Support capital planning and equipment investment decisions required to meet future business needs.
  • Assess operational risks and develop mitigation plans that ensure business continuity and long-term success.

Communication and Reporting

  • Provide regular updates on operational performance, risks, improvement initiatives, and business results.
  • Lead daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly operating reviews.
  • Drive alignment through effective communication across shifts, organizations, and leadership teams.
  • Clearly communicate priorities, expectations, and performance objectives throughout the organization.

onsemi is excited to share the base salary range for this position is $164,800-$296,600 exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. The final pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, education, experience, and/or consideration of internal equity of our current team members.
