Our world is transforming, and PTC is leading the way. Our software brings the physical and digital worlds together, enabling companies to improve operations, create better products, and empower people in all aspects of their business.
Our people make all the difference in our success. Today, we are a global team of nearly 7,000 and our main objective is to create opportunities for our team members to explore, learn, and grow - all while seeing their ideas come to life and celebrating the differences that make us who we are and the work we do possible.
The Role
You will join the AI team as a first-career engineer, working alongside senior engineers who will mentor you through design reviews, code reviews, and pairing. You will build and test the pieces that make agents reliable: skills, tools, evaluations, and integrations. Within your first year you will take ownership of well-scoped components that ship to production.
You are not expected to arrive knowing how to run production AI systems. You are expected to be rigorous, curious, and quick to learn from failure.
What You’ll Do
Build agent capabilities
- Implement skills and tools that agents use, including MCP servers and API connectors to ServiceMax and other enterprise systems
- Contribute to agent workflows, including multi-step tasks, tool calling, and memory and context handling, under senior guidance
- Build evaluation datasets and automated test harnesses to measure quality, regressions, and cost
- Add logging, tracing, and monitoring so we can see why an agent did what it did
- Investigate failures (hallucinations, tool errors, latency) and help fix root causes
- Help implement patterns where the LLM interprets intent and deterministic code produces the final output
- Validate model outputs against structured schemas before they reach users or downstream systems
- Partner with product managers and engineers to turn field service problems into scoped technical tasks
- Document your work so others can reuse it: design notes, runbooks, and examples
- Stay current on LLM capabilities and share what you learn with the team
Qualifications
Required
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML, or a related field (completed or finishing within six months)
- Solid Python skills, including writing tested, readable code
- Hands-on experience with at least one LLM API (Anthropic, OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Gemini) from coursework, internships, or personal projects
- Working knowledge of APIs (REST/JSON), Git, and the basics of cloud services
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Experience with prompt design, RAG, or tool-use / function-calling
- Any experience with evaluation methods for LLM output
Preferred
- Familiarity with agent concepts such as orchestration, sub-agents, or MCP
- Experience with Azure, Docker, or CI/CD
- Exposure to Salesforce, field service, IoT, or industrial domains
- Experience with TypeScript or SQL
