About Onshore
Onshore is the modern standard for U.S. companies claiming the R&D tax credit. We find, document, and defend the tax credits and deductions that farms, manufacturers, architects, and engineers have earned. Claiming the R&D tax credit has historically been an ordeal full of consultants, spreadsheets, and hidden fees. Now, our software and AI-powered solutions read every line of a client's records against the tax code, produce verified computations, and are reviewed by a credentialed tax professional before filing.
About the team
The Corporate Tax & Compliance team is taking Onshore from credit studies to the filing itself: amended returns today, full corporate returns in general availability in early 2027. Underneath, this is a compilers and databases problem. The core is a versioned calculation graph, so a return computed for a given tax year applies that year's law and reproduces exactly during an exam years later, fed by structured extraction of as-filed returns and delivered through IRS e-file infrastructure. The team runs two lanes: filing infrastructure, and extraction and amendments. This team has a public deadline, which is exactly why it's fun.
What you'll do
Build the versioned calculation graph: tax computation as data, with full lineage from source document to filed number
Ship e-file infrastructure: schema validation, transmission, acknowledgment handling, and the rejection remediation loop
Build structured extraction of as-filed returns accurate enough to amend against, and the workpapers that flag missed credits
Implement temporal law resolution: given a tax year and a fact pattern, apply the law as it stood, with citations that verify
Design the preparer workflow: review and sign-off roles, diagnostics, and an audit trail
Write the evals for what you ship; this team has a hard deadline and no tolerance for silent regressions
About you

Minimum requirements
2+ years designing, shipping, and operating production software, from requirements through architecture, delivery, and post-launch iteration.
Strong proficiency in a typed language, in SQL, and in data modeling. We work in TypeScript; deep experience elsewhere with real interest in switching counts.
You've built correctness-critical software, or you can show us you think in invariants: systems where wrong output is an incident, not a bug.
An appetite for spec-heavy work. E-file schemas and the Internal Revenue Code reward the engineer who actually reads them.
Clear, precise communication on technical topics, in writing and in person.
Able to work in person at our New York City office.
Preferred qualifications
Experience in tax, accounting, fintech, or payments infrastructure.
Experience building rules engines, calculation graphs, query engines, or anything compiler-shaped.
Experience with XML schema pipelines or government integration work (IRS MeF, EDGAR, state filing systems).
Experience with document extraction using LLMs where the tolerance for error was near zero.
Pay and benefits
The annual base salary for this role is $185,000, with a total equity grant valued at $70,000. Equity is ISOs valued at our Series B preferred price, on a standard four-year vest with a one-year cliff and early exercise available. Benefits include health, dental, and vision coverage and unlimited PTO.
Our interview process
Three conversations, about two hours of live time, with a decision typically one day after each step.
Resume deep dive, 30 minutes. We go through your experience and projects at real depth: what you built, the decisions you made, and what you'd do differently. Bring the work you're proud of.
Take-home assessment, then a one-hour review. You build something on your own time, then walk us through it live: your assumptions, patterns, and tradeoffs. We care as much about how you reason through the decisions as the code itself.
Behavioral interview, 30 minutes. How you work, how you handle ambiguity and disagreement, and whether Onshore is the right place for you, in both directions.
